To use Streamlabs Cloudbot moderation tools, enable Cloudbot in your Streamlabs dashboard, give it moderator permissions in the channel you want it to moderate, then choose a protection preset or configure individual filters in Mod Tools. Start with rules that fit your chat, watch how they affect ordinary conversation, and adjust thresholds as needed.
Enable Cloudbot and give it moderator permissions
- Sign in at Streamlabs.com, open Cloudbot from the left navigation, and enable it. Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide documents this workflow.
- Authorize Streamlabs as a moderator on the platform where you want it to act. On Twitch or Kick, open your channel chat, enter
/mod Streamlabs, and submit the command. On YouTube, open YouTube Studio, go to Settings > Community, and add Streamlabs as a moderator. - Return to Cloudbot and open Mod Tools. Choose a protection level for a quick setup, or leave the preset off and enable individual protections. Use the plus control beside a tool to adjust its settings; the question-mark control beside a protection level describes that level’s settings.
Cloudbot needs both to be enabled and to have moderator permissions before this moderation workflow can operate. The cited setup guide covers Twitch, Kick, and YouTube, but does not establish that every feature behaves identically on all three platforms.
Choose a protection level or configure filters individually
Streamlabs offers four protection levels. Medium is Streamlabs’ own recommendation for most streams, not a setting validated by independent performance testing. The right choice depends on how restrictive you want chat to be and how much tuning you are willing to do.

If a preset is too broad for your community, turn it off and use the individual controls. You can also keep the preset and tune a specific tool with its plus control. The Cloudbot Mod Tools guide describes the available settings; it does not publish universal ideal thresholds, accuracy rates, or false-positive figures.

What each Cloudbot moderation tool controls
Caps Protection
Limits messages written in all caps. The guide’s example uses a minimum amount of 5, a maximum amount of 10, and a maximum percentage of 45%. In that example, a message can be punished for exceeding the maximum amount or for passing the minimum amount while also exceeding the allowed share of capital letters. These are illustrative values from the guide, not a measured recommendation for every chat.
Symbol Protection
Limits messages containing too many symbols. Tune it to target disruptive symbol-heavy posts without blocking normal punctuation or expressive chat.
Link Protection
Controls which links viewers may post. You can allow trusted sites with a whitelist, block sites with a blacklist, and use role-based Auto Permit for selected groups. A moderator can also enter !permit <username> to authorize one viewer; Permit Duration controls how long that authorization lasts.

Word Protection
Blocks words and phrases on a blacklist. Streamlabs says its default filter catches most offensive language; you can add custom entries and assign a punishment. Advanced users can enable the regular-expression option for a blacklist entry. The documented actions include purging a message, timing out a viewer, or banning them, depending on the entry’s configured severity.
Paragraph Protection
Acts on overly long messages and includes a maximum message length setting. This can help limit walls of text, but choose a limit that still allows the longer messages your community considers reasonable.
Emote Protection
Limits messages with excessive emotes. Set a threshold that addresses spam without preventing ordinary reactions.

Zalgo Protection
Acts on text containing Zalgo-style glitching or combining characters, which can make messages difficult to read.
Tune thresholds, exemptions, and punishments
Caps, Symbols, Emote, and Paragraph Protection share several preferences. The controls let you decide who is exempt, what action Cloudbot takes, whether it posts an explanatory message, and—in threshold-based filters—what counts as too much.

- Auto Permit: Exempt selected roles, such as subscribers or regulars, if that matches your moderation policy.
- Punishment: Choose the action Cloudbot should take when a message crosses the rule.
- Punishment message: Choose whether Cloudbot posts a message and customize its response.
- Minimum and maximum amounts: Set the range relevant to the filter, such as how many capital letters or emotes trigger action.
- Maximum percentage: For filters that use it, limit the share of a message made up of the targeted content. With Caps Protection, this distinguishes a short message with a high proportion of caps from a longer message with the same number of capital letters.
- Maximum message length: Set the limit specific to Paragraph Protection.
For example, lowering a caps percentage can catch messages that are mostly uppercase even when they contain relatively few letters; raising it allows more uppercase writing before action. The guide’s Caps example illustrates how minimum amount, maximum amount, and maximum percentage work together, but it does not claim those example values are optimal. Begin with thresholds consistent with your rules, then observe actual chat and change settings if normal messages are being punished or unwanted behavior is getting through.

Set up link rules without blocking useful sites
- Open Link Protection in Mod Tools and add sites your viewers may link to the whitelist.
- Add sites you never want posted to the blacklist.
- Decide whether selected roles should be allowed to post links through Auto Permit.
- For an individual exception, have a moderator use
!permit <username>and set the appropriate Permit Duration.
Site lists are useful for stable community-wide rules; an individual permit is a temporary exception. Review both lists as your community’s trusted resources and moderation needs change.

Cloudbot does not remove messages
Check that Cloudbot is enabled in the Streamlabs dashboard and that Streamlabs has moderator permissions for the correct channel. For Twitch or Kick, verify the /mod Streamlabs command was submitted in that channel’s chat; for YouTube, check the moderator entry under YouTube Studio’s Settings > Community.
A filter catches ordinary messages
Review the relevant tool’s thresholds, Auto Permit roles, and punishment settings. Raise or otherwise adjust the threshold to match your rules, and consider whether a less restrictive protection level or individual filters would better fit the chat. Streamlabs does not publish a universal threshold that avoids false positives in every community.

Unwanted messages get through
Check that the specific protection is enabled and that its thresholds are not too permissive. For words, review the blacklist and the action assigned to each entry. For links, review the whitelist, blacklist, and any role or individual permits that may allow a viewer’s link.
Viewers cannot post legitimate links
Add the trusted site to the whitelist or, for a particular viewer, use !permit <username> and set Permit Duration. Also check whether role-based Auto Permit is configured as intended.
