If ScreenshotAPI.net times out on a slow page, first verify the request’s timeout and the page’s loading behavior. Then choose a wait condition that matches when the content you need becomes available. Increasing the timeout alone may not help if a fixed delay, lazy-loading scrolls, quota limit, or other API error is the real cause.

1. Confirm it is a render timeout

Start with the exact response status and error. A render-time failure is different from an authentication problem, quota exhaustion, rate limiting, an invalid URL, or a destination the service cannot access. Check the current API response documentation and your account usage before changing render settings.

ScreenshotAPI.net’s help page says failed screenshots do not count against usage, but plan limits and account terms can change. Verify the current details in your account rather than assuming that every failure has the same billing or quota treatment. See ScreenshotAPI.net help.

2. Check the timeout value and endpoint version

The vendor’s lazy-loading documentation describes timeout as the maximum time the API waits for a page to load before aborting. That guide gives a default of 100000 milliseconds (100 seconds) and warns that a value set too low can fail before the target page loads.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Treat that number as documentation for the endpoint/version covered by that guide, not a universal default for every ScreenshotAPI.net request. Confirm the parameter name, units, default, and any limits in the reference for the exact API version you are calling. If your configured timeout is shorter than the page’s genuine load time, increase it deliberately; avoid choosing a very large value before checking the other causes below.

3. Choose a wait condition that fits the page

The wait event determines what the capture treats as ready. A page may have a usable structure before every resource is loaded, while dynamic content may arrive only after additional requests. Choose based on what must appear in the screenshot.

Wait condition Use it when Trade-off
domcontentloaded The document structure is enough for the capture and you want an earlier point in the load lifecycle. It is earlier and faster, but resources may still be unfinished.
load Page resources need to finish loading before capture. It waits longer than domcontentloaded.
networkidle Meaningful content is populated by asynchronous requests and waiting for network activity to settle is appropriate. It can wait longer than an earlier event; pages with ongoing network activity may not settle promptly.

These event descriptions follow the vendor’s lazy-loading guide. A page with continuously active requests may be a poor fit for a broad network-idle wait; where supported, a specific readiness selector can be more precise.

4. Wait for delayed content without guessing

If the document reaches the chosen event but a chart, animation, or script-populated section is still missing, add only the extra wait the content needs. A fixed delay can help when late content has no reliable readiness marker, but every added millisecond extends the render and can consume the timeout budget.

When the API supports it and the page has a dependable element that appears when the desired content is ready, wait for that selector instead of using a long fixed delay. The vendor’s lazy-loading documentation and selector-wait documentation describe these approaches. Prefer the smallest meaningful wait rather than stacking a long delay on top of a late load event.

5. Account for lazy loading and full-page capture

Full-page capture can require more work than a viewport screenshot, especially when off-screen images or sections load only after scrolling. The vendor’s lazy-loading guide explains that scrolling can expose this content, but each scroll step and its scroll_delay adds time. A high scroll delay on a long page can push the render past the timeout.

  • If only the initial viewport matters, turn off lazy_load rather than scrolling through content you do not need.
  • If the full page is required, retain lazy loading but use a moderate scroll_delay and avoid adding more waiting than the content needs.
  • Test the same page with and without lazy loading to see whether the extra full-page work is what pushes the capture over its deadline.

6. Troubleshoot in this order

  1. Read the response. Identify whether it reports a render timeout or a separate authentication, quota, rate-limit, URL, or destination error. Use the current response documentation and account information.
  2. Verify the timeout for your endpoint. Confirm units, default, and supported limits for the API version in use. The 100000 ms default is stated in the cited lazy-loading guide; check that version’s reference before applying it to another endpoint.
  3. Match the wait event to the required result. Try domcontentloaded for a structural capture, load when resources matter, or networkidle when asynchronous content needs to settle.
  4. Wait for late content precisely. Use a readiness selector if one is available; otherwise add a measured delay for the specific content that arrives late.
  5. Reduce unnecessary full-page work. Disable lazy_load for viewport-only captures. For full-page captures, reduce excessive scroll delay and keep the requested coverage to what you need.
  6. Separate repeatable page slowness from service or account conditions. Compare the exact response and account usage. Retry only when the response suggests a transient problem; if the same page fails reproducibly, adjust its wait strategy or capture scope.

7. Common symptoms and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The request fails before the page appears. The configured timeout is too short for the target, or the failure is not actually a render timeout. Read the response first, then verify timeout units and endpoint-specific limits.
The page is captured, but images or other resources are missing. The capture waits for an early event such as domcontentloaded. Use load if those resources must finish before capture.
A dynamically populated section is blank. Content arrives after the selected event. Wait for a meaningful selector, or add a short, measured delay if no suitable selector exists.
Only a long full-page capture times out. Lazy-load scrolling and its per-step delay may be extending the render. Disable lazy loading if the viewport is sufficient; otherwise reduce excessive scroll delay.
The failure looks like an account or request rejection. Authentication, quota, rate limiting, an invalid URL, or a blocked destination may be involved. Use the response status/error and current account details; do not treat every failure as a slow page.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP; replace the URL with the page you need and provide your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
