Puppeteer’s documented operating-system matrix for Chrome for Testing includes Windows x64, macOS x64 and arm64, and Debian/Ubuntu or openSUSE/Fedora Linux on x64 and arm64. Firefox is supported too, but Puppeteer refers users to Mozilla for its operating-system requirements rather than publishing a Firefox matrix of its own. A listed platform still needs the right system dependencies and a browser version compatible with the Puppeteer release.
Supported operating systems by browser
Puppeteer’s current system-requirements page lists these platforms for Chrome for Testing:
| Browser | Operating systems named | Architectures named |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome for Testing | Windows; macOS; Debian or Ubuntu Linux; openSUSE or Fedora Linux | Windows x64; macOS x64 and arm64; each listed Linux family x64 and arm64 |
| Firefox | Puppeteer directs users to Mozilla’s system requirements | Not specified on Puppeteer’s page |
These are the systems named in Puppeteer’s documentation, not a guarantee that every Linux distribution or derivative is equally supported. See Puppeteer’s system requirements and supported browsers for the current details.
Does Puppeteer support ARM64?
Yes, for the Chrome for Testing platforms explicitly listed: macOS arm64 and Debian/Ubuntu, openSUSE, and Fedora Linux arm64. Windows is listed as x64 only on Puppeteer’s system-requirements page, so do not infer Windows ARM64 support from the macOS and Linux entries.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Firefox requirements are separate
Puppeteer supports Firefox, but its own operating-system page does not specify Firefox OS versions or architectures. It links to Mozilla’s requirements instead. Check Mozilla’s current system requirements for the Firefox release you intend to run; a minimum version cannot be inferred from Puppeteer’s Chrome matrix.
Puppeteer’s documentation says Chrome for Testing support began with Puppeteer v20 and stable Firefox support with v23. The project describes browser versions as tightly paired with Puppeteer releases to avoid protocol incompatibilities. See the Puppeteer FAQ.

What else a working installation needs
Node.js, TypeScript, and archive tools
The current requirements page specifies Node.js 22.12 or later. If using TypeScript, it specifies TypeScript 5.0.1 or later and an ES2022-or-later target. Extracting browser archives also requires tar.exe or PowerShell on Windows, and unzip on macOS or Linux, unless the optional yauzl dependency is installed. Firefox Linux archives require xz or bzip2. These are installation prerequisites, not additional supported operating systems.
Linux dependencies and distribution caveats
On Linux, missing system libraries can prevent the browser from launching even when the distribution and architecture appear in the matrix. Puppeteer’s troubleshooting guide lists common Debian/Ubuntu dependencies and discusses installing missing dependencies under WSL. Puppeteer also notes that Chrome does not support Alpine out of the box; running it there requires compatible dependencies and testing, rather than assuming Alpine has the same documented support as the named distributions.

Browser downloads depend on the package you install
The puppeteer package normally downloads a recent Chrome for Testing build and a chrome-headless-shell binary. Package managers may block install scripts, which can skip that download; Puppeteer documents a manual browser-install command for that situation. By contrast, puppeteer-core is intended for a separately managed or remote browser and does not download Chrome itself. Installation behavior is distinct from operating-system support. See Puppeteer installation.
How to choose a deployment platform
- Choose the browser path: Chrome for Testing has the explicit OS-and-architecture matrix above; Firefox uses Mozilla’s requirements.
- Match the CPU architecture to the documented entry, especially on ARM systems.
- For Linux, check whether the distribution is explicitly named and whether its required browser libraries are available.
- Confirm that archive extraction tools are present if the installation needs to unpack browser downloads.
- Use the browser version paired with your Puppeteer release, and verify any CI or container-specific dependencies before relying on a launch.
Or skip the browser setup
