Disable JavaScript before navigation
setJavaScriptEnabled is a method on Puppeteer’s Page class. Pass false and await the call before page.goto() for that navigation to use the disabled setting. See the Puppeteer API reference.

}Replace https://example.com with the URL you want to visit. The try/finally structure closes the browser even if page setup or navigation fails.
Why the order matters
Puppeteer documents that changing this setting does not affect scripts that have already run; it takes full effect on the next navigation. Set it before the navigation you want affected. If the page has already loaded, setting the flag afterward will not reverse effects from scripts that ran during that load. Navigate again after changing the setting if you need the next navigation to use it.

Check the configured state
Use await page.isJavaScriptEnabled() to read the page’s configured JavaScript state. It returns a boolean. A result of false confirms the setting, but does not establish that every site feature works correctly without JavaScript. The method is documented in the Puppeteer API reference.
Apply the setting to each page you control
The setting is exposed on Page. Do not assume that changing it on one page configures every other page or popup. For predictable behavior, set and check it on each page your automation controls. Puppeteer’s documentation describes popups as belonging to their parent page’s browser context, but does not establish that this JavaScript setting automatically propagates to other pages. Check browser compatibility for your Puppeteer version
Puppeteer’s supported browser versions are tied to specific Puppeteer releases. Its supported-browser table, retrieved October 3, 2026, lists Puppeteer v25.12.0 with Chrome for Testing 154.0.8037.57 and Firefox 156.0.1. Those figures are version-specific, not a promise about other releases or a project’s installed browser. Check the supported browsers table against your installed Puppeteer version, particularly when connecting to a browser that is not bundled with your setup.
The Puppeteer documentation also lists Page.setJavaScriptEnabled() and Page.isJavaScriptEnabled() among its WebDriver BiDi support. Browser compatibility still depends on the release and browser mapping.

Troubleshooting
- The page still appears to have JavaScript effects. The setting may have been changed after scripts already ran. Set it before navigation and load the page again.

Apply and verify the setting on each page your automation controls rather than relying on another page’s configuration.
- Browser behavior differs from expectations. Confirm that your installed Puppeteer version and connected browser are a supported pairing using Puppeteer’s version-specific browser table.
