These choices change cache use or isolate a session—they are not interchangeable ways to erase stored data.
Choose the right cache operation

Make page requests ignore cache
Disable cache before navigating or making the requests you want to test. The setting applies to subsequent requests from that page until you re-enable it.

await page.setCacheEnabled(true);Puppeteer documents caching as enabled by default. Disabling it tells requests to ignore cache; it should not be described as clearing all previously stored browser data. See the Page.setCacheEnabled() API.
Ignore cache for a single reload
When the page is already open and only its next reload should bypass cache, pass ignoreCache: true to page.reload():

await page.reload({ ignoreCache: true });This option is scoped to that reload. It is preferable to changing page cache behavior when later requests should return to the normal setting. The behavior is documented in Puppeteer’s ReloadOptions reference.
Start with an isolated browser context
Create a new context when you need a clean, separate session rather than changing an existing page’s cache behavior. Puppeteer states that contexts do not share cookies or cache. Closing the context closes its pages.

Do not confuse website cache with Puppeteer’s browser-download cache
Puppeteer’s browser-management tooling has a clear command, but it clears installed browser binaries—not the HTTP or resource cache used by a page:

npx @puppeteer/browsers clearThe cacheDirectory configuration property and PUPPETEER_CACHE_DIR environment variable specify where downloaded browsers are cached. Changing that location does not clear a website’s page cache. See the @puppeteer/browsers documentation and Puppeteer Configuration reference.

- The page still appears stale: Confirm
setCacheEnabled(false)ran on the same page before the request, or useignoreCache: trueon the reload in question. These operations affect browser cache use; they do not guarantee that a server or intermediary will return different content. - A later request uses cache again: A one-time
ignoreCachereload does not change later reload behavior. If you want subsequent page requests to ignore cache, disable it withsetCacheEnabled(false). - You ran the CLI clear command expecting a fresh page:
npx @puppeteer/browsers clearremoves installed browser binaries. It is not the page-cache operation; use the relevant Page API instead. - A new context does not clear the old session: Context creation isolates a session from other contexts. Close the context when its pages are no longer needed; do not treat isolation as deletion of another context’s data.
Check the API version in your project
The official API references cited here identify Puppeteer 25.12.0. APIs and behavior can evolve, so check the reference matching the version installed in your project if a method signature or result differs.

Does Puppeteer’s browser-management clear command clear a website’s cache?
No. It clears installed browser binaries, not a page’s HTTP or resource cache.

Do new Puppeteer browser contexts share cookies or cache?
No. A newly created browser context is isolated from other contexts’ cookies and cache.
