CreatePageOptions controls a small set of choices when Puppeteer creates a page: whether it is created as a tab or window, optional bounds for the window branch, and an optional shared background property. It is passed to BrowserContext.newPage(). It does not set viewport dimensions or a user agent, and it does not create a separate browser context.
What CreatePageOptions controls
The Puppeteer API reference labeled version 25.10.0 defines the type as a union of tab and window options, intersected with an optional background property:
export type CreatePageOptions = (
| {
type?: 'tab';
}
| {
type: 'window';
windowBounds?: WindowBounds;
}
) & {
background?: boolean;
};
In practice, the type allows type to be omitted or set to 'tab', or requires type: 'window' for the window branch. windowBounds is optional in that branch. The type also allows background with either branch. The reference defines the accepted shape, but does not explain the operational effect of background or guarantee particular window placement behavior across browsers or operating systems. Puppeteer CreatePageOptions reference
| Branch | Fields | Meaning of the documented type |
|---|---|---|
| Tab | type?: 'tab' |
Omit type or specify 'tab'. |
| Window | type: 'window'; optional windowBounds?: WindowBounds |
Specify the window branch explicitly; bounds use the separate WindowBounds type. |
| Shared | Optional background?: boolean |
The property is permitted with either branch; its behavior is not detailed by the cited type signature. |
Where to pass the options
Pass the object to BrowserContext.newPage(options?). Puppeteer documents that method as creating a page in the current browser context; it resolves to a Page. The method reference surfaced as version 25.12.0, while the type reference is labeled 25.10.0, so check the documentation matching the version of Puppeteer installed in your project before relying on a version-specific signature. - Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
const context = await browser.createBrowserContext();
const page = await context.newPage({ type: 'tab' });
await page.goto('https://example.com');
// Work with the page...
await context.close();
This example creates an isolated context, opens a tab-style page in it, navigates, and then closes the context. Closing the context closes its pages. The default browser context cannot be closed. Browser.createBrowserContext() reference · BrowserContext reference
Choosing a creation branch
- Use
context.newPage()orcontext.newPage({ type: 'tab' })when the tab branch is appropriate. - Use
context.newPage({ type: 'window', windowBounds: ... })when you want to supply the documented window options. The exact fields available for bounds are defined byWindowBounds; consult the matching API reference rather than assuming browser or operating-system support. - Include
backgroundonly when its behavior is understood for your Puppeteer version and environment; the type signature alone does not describe what it changes.
A page is not a new isolated context
A BrowserContext represents a user context and separates storage such as cookies and localStorage. Calling newPage() creates a page inside the context on which you call it; it does not itself establish another storage boundary. A page opened through window.open remains in its parent page’s context. BrowserContext reference

If separate cookies or local storage are needed, create a separate context with browser.createBrowserContext(), create pages through that context, and close it when finished. If the page should share the existing context’s storage, create it through that existing context instead.
Viewport and user-agent settings belong elsewhere
CreatePageOptions has no viewport-size or user-agent fields. Configure those at the page level with Page.setViewport() and Page.setUserAgent(), or use Puppeteer’s device-emulation support where appropriate. The API reference advises configuring the viewport before navigation for responsive emulation; changing viewport properties, especially mobile or touch properties, can resize a page and may reload it. There is also a connection-level setting: ConnectOptions.defaultViewport applies a viewport to each page and is documented with a default of 800 by 600. That setting is not part of CreatePageOptions. ConnectOptions reference

Common mistakes and fixes
- Adding viewport or user-agent fields to the creation object: those are not fields in the documented type. Set them through page-level APIs or the connection’s viewport default.
- Expecting another page to have separate storage: pages in the same context share that context’s storage boundary. Create a separate browser context when isolation is needed.
- Assuming what
backgrounddoes: the type reference allows the property but does not explain its effect. Consult documentation for the exact installed release and environment. - Relying on a signature from a different version: the type reference is labeled 25.10.0, while the cited method and supporting pages are labeled 25.12.0. Match references to the installed package.
