Inspect Puppeteer’s default launch arguments
The Node.js puppeteer.defaultArgs(options?) API returns a promise for a string[], so use await to read the result. The official API reference reviewed is for Puppeteer 25.12.0; check the reference matching your installed version if your project uses another release.

})();This inspects the arguments for the supplied options; it does not launch a browser. The abstract BrowserLauncher.defaultArgs(options) method is documented as accepting LaunchOptions and returning string[]. The Node-facing APIs are asynchronous.
Add a browser switch without replacing defaults
Pass additional command-line switches through args. Puppeteer retains its usual defaults and appends your custom arguments.

Remove a selected default argument
To omit a specific Puppeteer-provided switch and preserve the other defaults, give its exact name in an ignoreDefaultArgs array. For example, the launch reference demonstrates filtering --mute-audio:

});This is the narrower option when one default causes a problem or conflicts with your intended launch configuration. Inspect the computed arguments with defaultArgs() if you need to verify which switches are involved.
When to ignore every default
ignoreDefaultArgs: true disables all Puppeteer default arguments. Puppeteer’s launch documentation cautions that you probably want those defaults, so this is not the normal way to add or adjust one switch. Removing the full set can break assumptions Puppeteer makes when starting its browser; use it only when you understand which arguments your launch requires and are prepared to supply them yourself.

Choose the smallest change that works

Browser and version compatibility
The Puppeteer API pages reviewed display version 25.12.0. The launch reference says Puppeteer works best with its bundled Chrome for Testing version and does not guarantee operation with other Chrome versions. If you use puppeteer-core, provide an executablePath or channel when launching. Check the API reference for your installed Puppeteer version before depending on a signature or launch option.
Troubleshooting launch arguments
- Your custom flag appears to have no effect: check that it is a valid switch for the browser and that it is passed as an item in the
argsarray. UsedefaultArgs()to inspect Puppeteer’s computed list, but remember thatargssupplies extra launch arguments. - The browser fails after changing
ignoreDefaultArgs: remove the broadtruesetting and filter only the specific default you need to omit. Puppeteer’s default arguments are usually needed for its normal launch behavior. - A launch works with bundled Chrome but not another installation: Puppeteer documents best compatibility with its bundled Chrome for Testing and does not guarantee operation with other Chrome versions. Verify the browser path or channel and consult the documentation for your installed Puppeteer version.
puppeteer.defaultArgs()does not return immediately: await the promise in Node.js before logging or using the returned array.
