Close the browser and its pages
Await browser.close() so the asynchronous shutdown completes before your code moves on or exits. Puppeteer documents that this closes the browser and all associated pages. See the Browser.close() API.

}The try/finally pattern ensures the close call runs even if the work inside the try block throws. If you already have a browser instance, the essential cleanup line is simply await browser.close().

Close Chrome or Chromium without shutting it down
If another process owns the browser, or you intend to reuse it, call await browser.disconnect(). This releases Puppeteer’s connection; it does not shut down the browser or close any pages. The Puppeteer browser management guide makes the distinction explicit. If Puppeteer launched the browser and you want it stopped, use browser.close().
Handle browsers launched with an AbortSignal or process signals
Puppeteer launch options accept an AbortSignal; aborting it closes the browser. The launch options also document default handlers for SIGHUP, SIGINT and SIGTERM, with browser close or kill behavior depending on the signal. These are launch-time, process-level lifecycle controls; they do not change the distinction between closing a browser and disconnecting from it. Check the LaunchOptions API for the behavior in your installed version.

Troubleshoot shutdown problems
- The browser is still running: Check whether your code called
browser.disconnect(). That detaches Puppeteer but intentionally leaves the browser running; usebrowser.close()when the browser itself should stop. - Only one tab should close: Call
await page.close()on that page rather than closing the browser. - You cannot close the default context:
context.close()does not close the default browser context. Close individual pages or close the browser, depending on the intended scope. browser.process()returnsnull: That method returns the associated ChildProcess for a locally launched browser, but returnsnullwhen Puppeteer reached the browser throughPuppeteer.connect(). Do not rely on it for a local process handle in that case; see the Browser.process() API.
