Call browser.wsEndpoint() on a Puppeteer Browser instance to get its WebSocket URL. To connect to a browser that is already running, pass the endpoint that browser exposes as browserWSEndpoint to puppeteer.connect().
Get the endpoint from a Puppeteer-launched browser
Launch Puppeteer, read the endpoint from the returned Browser, and retain it if you plan to reconnect. The URL is specific to that browser instance; there is no universal endpoint to copy.

Its documented shape is ws://HOST:PORT/devtools/browser/<id>; the host, port, and ID vary with the instance. Do not treat a documentation placeholder or another machine’s endpoint as yours. Connect to a browser that is already running
If another process or service started the browser, obtain its actual debugging endpoint from that browser’s output or service configuration, then pass it to puppeteer.connect(). The Puppeteer guide illustrates this with a sample URL; use the endpoint for your own browser, not the sample value.

The connection option is documented as browserWSEndpoint; puppeteer.connect() returns a promise that resolves to a Browser. The guide also lists browserURL as an option, so use the connection information your running browser exposes. See the Puppeteer browser management guide and ConnectOptions API reference.
Look up the debugger URL from the browser
The Puppeteer API reference notes that the browser’s debugger URL can also be found as webSocketDebuggerUrl in the JSON response from http://HOST:PORT/json/version. Replace the host and port with those of the browser you are accessing, and use the returned value rather than constructing the browser ID yourself.

Disconnect without closing the browser
browser.disconnect()detaches Puppeteer; the browser and its pages keep running. This is useful when you intend to reconnect with the saved endpoint.browser.close()closes the browser. Use it when you want to end the browser process, not merely release the current Puppeteer connection.
These operations have different lifecycle effects, so choose deliberately when cleaning up or handing control to another process. See the browser management guide.
Troubleshoot endpoint and connection problems
- No endpoint available:
wsEndpoint()is a method on a PuppeteerBrowser. Call it on the browser object returned by launch or connection, not on the Puppeteer module. - Connection fails: Confirm you are using the actual endpoint exposed by the target browser and that its host and port are reachable from the process running Puppeteer. A placeholder or endpoint from another instance will not identify your browser.
- Browser closes unexpectedly: Check whether your cleanup path calls
browser.close(). Usedisconnect()if the goal is to detach while keeping the browser and pages running. - Endpoint lookup URL fails: Make sure the
/json/versionrequest targets the host and port of the browser’s debugging interface; the API reference does not define one universal host or port.
