To import a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection into OBS Studio, enable OBS’s search for known scene-collection locations, then use Scene Collection > Import. Once imported, select the collection from the Scene Collection menu to activate it. Your scenes and sources can move this way, but you should check output, hotkey, and audio settings separately.
Import the Streamlabs scene collection

Open OBS Studio and click Settings.

Open Importers and enable Search known locations for scene collections when importing. This lets OBS look for Streamlabs Desktop collections in known locations.

Close Settings, then choose Scene Collection > Import from OBS’s top menu.

Select the Streamlabs Desktop collection OBS detects and complete the import.

Open Scene Collection and select the imported collection. Importing makes it available; selecting it activates it.
OBS’s built-in importer supports scene collections from Streamlabs Desktop, as well as OBS Classic and XSplit Broadcaster. The workflow does not require the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS. Streamlabs’ import guide describes the same OBS Scene Collection import process.

What transfers—and what to check
A scene collection contains scenes and their sources. OBS also includes global audio sources configured under Settings > Audio in a scene collection. This does not guarantee every external file or device will be available on another computer, so inspect the sources after import.
Do not assume the entire Streamlabs setup transfers. Streamlabs says output configurations, hotkeys, and audio settings may need to be configured again in OBS. Review those preferences and test your scenes before going live.

Scene Collections versus Profiles
These OBS features hold different parts of a setup. Use a Scene Collection for the scene layout and sources; use a Profile for stream, video, and output settings. A Profile does not store scenes, and a Scene Collection does not store output settings.

If OBS does not find the collection

The collection is missing from the import list: Check that Search known locations for scene collections when importing is enabled under Settings > Importers, then reopen Scene Collection > Import. OBS’s published steps describe detection through known locations but do not document every cause of a detection failure.

The collection imported, but your old scenes are not showing: Open the Scene Collection menu and select the imported collection; import alone does not activate it.

A source is missing or unavailable: Inspect the sources in each scene. A saved source reference does not ensure that an external file or device is available on this computer.

Your stream behaves differently: Review output configuration, hotkeys, and audio preferences in OBS, then test before going live. These settings may need to be set up again.
Do you need the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS?
No—not to import a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection. The plugin is a separate, optional way to use Streamlabs features such as widgets, alerts, and overlays inside OBS. Streamlabs’ guide, last updated October 1, 2026, says the plugin requires OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later and is available on Windows; it is free to download and use, while multistream and some premium overlays are part of Streamlabs Ultra. Availability and requirements can change, so check the current Streamlabs Plugin for OBS guide if you want those integrations.
