For a conventional new Vue app, use the official create-vue scaffold, which creates a Vue 3 project powered by Vite. You’ll need a compatible Node.js version and a command line; you do not need prior framework experience. Vue’s official learning path expects basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript knowledge.
What Vue is and which setup to choose
The Vue.js Introduction describes Vue as “a JavaScript framework for building user interfaces.” It builds on standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, adding a way to describe interface behavior and organize it into reusable components. You can learn it without experience in another framework.
| Your situation | Starting point | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Building a new app with reusable components | create-vue with Vite |
Requires Node.js and a package manager, but provides the standard Vue Single-File Component workflow. |
| Adding a small interactive feature to existing static HTML or a backend-rendered page | Vue from a CDN | No build step, but this setup does not support Single-File Component syntax. |
| Considering Vue CLI for a new project | Prefer Vite through create-vue |
Vue CLI is in maintenance mode; use it if a project constraint specifically requires its webpack-based setup. |
| Not sure whether you need TypeScript, tests, routing, or state management | Accept the scaffold defaults | You can add optional capabilities as the app’s needs become clearer. |
For a conventional new application using .vue files, choose the Vite scaffold. If you need server-side rendering or other framework features, Vue’s Quick Start recommends considering a framework such as Nuxt. It also lists Vike, Astro, and Quasar as Vue framework options. If you do not need SSR, a direct Vite setup is simpler.
Create and run your first Vue app
Check the prerequisites
The current Vue Quick Start lists familiarity with the command line and Node.js ^22.18.0 || >=24.12.0. Install a Node.js version in that range and use npm, which is included with Node.js. If your Node.js version does not meet the requirement, update it before scaffolding.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Scaffold the project
-
Open a terminal in the folder where you want the project.
-
Run
npm create vue@latest. Answer the prompts, or press Enter to accept the defaults if you are unsure which options you need. -
Change into the project directory using the name you chose at the prompt. For example, if you named it
my-vue-app, runcd my-vue-app. -
Install dependencies with
npm install. -
Start the local development server with
npm run dev, then open the local address printed in the terminal.Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
npm create vue@latest
cd my-vue-app
npm install
npm run dev
Replace my-vue-app with the actual project folder name selected during scaffolding. The project uses Vite and Vue Single-File Components, and the starter demonstrates the Composition API with <script setup>. The development server is for local work; it does not deploy the app.

Choose options without overconfiguring
The prompts can include TypeScript, JSX, Vue Router, Pinia, Vitest, an end-to-end testing solution, ESLint, Prettier, and Vue DevTools. If you do not yet know whether you need an option, accepting the defaults is a sound starting point. You can learn Vue’s core ideas before introducing additional tooling.
Learn Vue’s core ideas in a useful order
-
Try the browser tutorial. The official Vue tutorial is hands-on and lets you work through examples. It expects basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and is not intended to cover every part of Vue.
-
Explore the starter app. In your local project, find the Vue component files and see how the template, JavaScript logic, and styles fit together.

Keep optional tools in context. Add routing, shared state, or testing when your app needs them rather than treating every scaffold option as a prerequisite.
The Quick Start also links to an optional interactive Vue tutorial on Scrimba for running, editing, and deploying a first app.
Set up an editor and optional debugging tools
The official tooling guide recommends Visual Studio Code with the Vue – Official extension. It also notes WebStorm support. Vue DevTools is optional: it can help inspect component trees and component state, track state-management events, and profile performance. You can learn Vue without installing it.
If you choose TypeScript
For Vue Single-File Components using TypeScript, the official guide recommends IDE feedback and identifies vue-tsc for command-line type checking and declaration generation. Vite transpiles TypeScript but does not itself type-check it, so use the recommended checking workflow rather than assuming a successful Vite build verifies types.
Build the app for production
When you are ready to create a deployable build, run the project’s build script:

npm run build
The generated files go into dist. This creates the production build; it does not publish the site. Follow the official deployment guide for shipping it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse Vue from a CDN for a static page
A CDN setup can add Vue interactivity to static HTML or a backend-rendered page without a build step. It is an alternative for that use case, not the recommended route for a full new app using .vue Single-File Components. The official Quick Start covers this approach; choose the Vite scaffold when you want the conventional app workflow.
