If a page uses the right font in your test browser but Percy shows a fallback, check the font request and Percy’s asset-discovery errors first. Percy captures the DOM in the test browser, then discovers assets and renders the snapshot in Percy infrastructure. Make sure the font is reachable, wait for the application’s actual ready state, and trigger lazy loading when needed. Increase Percy’s asset-discovery timeout only if logs show the font request arrives late.

Find which stage is losing the font

Compare the page in the test browser immediately before the Percy snapshot with the rendered Percy result. If the test browser already shows a fallback, the issue is in application loading or test readiness. If it shows the intended font but Percy does not, inspect the Percy build’s network errors and asset-discovery results: a correct browser view does not prove Percy later fetched the font.

Percy’s capture workflow has separate DOM capture, asset-discovery, and rendering stages. Its documented default asset-discovery idle threshold is 100 ms without new network requests; a font request that starts late may fall outside that window. See BrowserStack’s Percy SDK and screenshot capture workflow.

Check the font request and access

  1. Identify the exact font file URL referenced by the page’s CSS.
  2. Inspect the Percy build’s network errors and determine whether that URL was requested and whether it succeeded.
  3. Confirm that Percy’s asset discovery can reach the font’s host. BrowserStack recommends allowing failed asset hosts when required; for protected files, check the relevant authentication configuration.
  4. Fix the specific blocked, failed, or unauthorized request, then run the snapshot again and inspect the build.

A CSS declaration that names a font does not establish that Percy retrieved its file. BrowserStack’s Percy troubleshooting guidance also calls out failed CSS or font resources, slow elements, and lazy-loaded assets.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Wait for the page’s real ready state

Take the snapshot after the application has reached the state the test is meant to compare. Prefer an app-specific readiness signal or selector over an arbitrary delay. Percy’s CLI troubleshooting guidance documents waitForSelector and waitForTimeout; use a timeout when observed load behavior justifies it, not as a substitute for investigating failed requests. The snapshot command configuration does not document a universal dedicated “wait for fonts” snapshot option.

In a scripted browser test, you can also check the required font state in the test browser before calling percySnapshot, where your browser setup supports that check. Treat it as a capture precondition only: Percy still discovers and fetches assets in a later stage, so verify the rendered result in the Percy build.

Adjust asset discovery only when logs point to timing

If the font request is valid but arrives after Percy’s discovery window, increase the relevant network-idle-timeout in Percy configuration or CLI use, then rerun the build. The default documented idle period is 100 ms with no new requests; the workflow documentation notes that it may need to be increased for assets that take longer.

Do not use a large blanket wait to paper over an inaccessible font or a failed request. A timeout helps with late discovery, not broken delivery. Check the network evidence again after changing it.

Trigger lazy-loaded fonts or stylesheets

If the page requests a font or stylesheet only after scrolling or interaction, trigger that behavior before snapshotting. For browser-driven tests, perform the relevant app interaction before calling Percy. For CLI snapshots, Percy’s asset-discovery browser does not scroll automatically; BrowserStack documents a beforeSnapshot approach that scrolls the page so lazy-loaded resources enter the viewport. Follow the lazy-loading guide for the CLI configuration.

Use Percy-specific CSS only for an intentional rendering state

Percy-specific CSS is applied in Percy’s rendering environment and can be configured for a snapshot or globally. It can set an intentionally different test appearance, but it cannot make Percy retrieve a font file it cannot access. Avoid forcing a fallback or substitute font to hide a broken request when the real interface is supposed to use the web font. Fix delivery and access first. See Percy-specific CSS documentation.

Choose a fix based on evidence

Evidence Likely stage Intervention Risk to watch
Fallback already appears before the snapshot Application or test-browser readiness Fix application loading or wait for the intended ready state A forced font in the test could conceal an application regression
Pre-snapshot font looks correct; Percy reports a failed or blocked font request Percy asset discovery or access Resolve the network or authentication issue and allow the host if required Longer waits do not repair a denied request
Font request appears late in network evidence Asset-discovery timing Increase the relevant network-idle timeout and verify the build Unneeded blanket delays slow snapshots without fixing other failures
Resource appears only after scrolling or interaction Lazy-loading trigger Trigger the app behavior, or use CLI beforeSnapshot scrolling Changing CSS alone does not cause the resource to load
Only Percy’s intended style should differ Percy rendering Apply Percy-specific CSS for that deliberate condition Substitute fonts can mask a genuine font-delivery regression

Troubleshoot common symptoms

Percy shows a fallback, but there is no obvious error

Check the exact font URL and network evidence in the Percy build. A stylesheet reference is not proof of a successful font fetch. Confirm that the host is accessible to asset discovery and that protected resources have the needed access.

The test sees the correct font, but Percy does not

That points toward Percy’s later asset-discovery or rendering stages rather than proving the test is ready to snapshot. Check the Percy request results first; then address access, late requests, or lazy loading according to the evidence.

A longer wait changes nothing

Stop increasing delays and inspect the request status and access path. A timeout is appropriate for a demonstrably late request, not a missing, blocked, or unauthorized font.

Changing Percy CSS appears to fix the diff

Verify that the intended result is actually a deliberately different Percy rendering state. If the product should use the original font, treat substituted styling as a possible mask and repair the font request instead.
