Use the separate /browser-rendering/snapshot endpoint when you also need page HTML or another supported snapshot format. Both routes require an account ID and an API token with Browser Rendering Write permission. See Cloudflare’s API overview for the distinct routes.
What you need before making a request
- A Cloudflare account ID.
- An API token authorized for Browser Rendering Write. Cloudflare documents API tokens as the preferred authorization method; send the token as a bearer token in the
Authorizationheader. - A target page URL reachable by the browser. For pages that render content after initial navigation, choose a suitable wait condition rather than assuming every page is ready at the same time.
The endpoint includes your account ID: https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/{account_id}/browser-rendering/screenshot. Replace {account_id} with your actual Cloudflare account ID. Cloudflare’s API overview confirms the route; check its current request schema before relying on optional fields.
Capture a screenshot with the direct endpoint
Send a JSON POST request to the screenshot endpoint with the target URL and the screenshot settings supported by that route. The following cURL example shows the request pattern; check Cloudflare’s current API reference for the direct screenshot route’s exact body schema and response format before using it in production.

Use snapshot when you need the screenshot with page content
Cloudflare’s separate snapshot operation can return page HTML content and a screenshot. Its documentation describes the screenshot field as base64-encoded, so decode that field to create an image file. The snapshot reference says it “Returns the page’s HTML content and screenshot.” See the snapshot create reference for the current input and output schema.
The request URL is https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/YOUR_ACCOUNT_ID/browser-rendering/snapshot. The following Python illustrates the bearer-token POST pattern and base64 decoding; the exact request fields and response nesting must match Cloudflare’s snapshot schema.

Choose timing, capture area, and image format
Wait for the right point in page loading
For navigation, Cloudflare documents gotoOptions and waitUntil values including load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2. Select a condition that matches the page: a basic document may be ready at DOM content loaded, while a page that fetches or paints content later may need a different wait or a supported waitFor* condition. The right condition is site-dependent; no single wait guarantees that every dynamic element has finished rendering.

Capture the viewport or more of the page

Select an output type
The documented screenshot options include PNG, JPEG, and WebP where supported. Choose the format required by the consuming application; confirm which fields and formats the particular endpoint accepts in its current reference.
Troubleshoot common request problems
Authorization or permission errors
Confirm the bearer token is present and belongs to the intended Cloudflare account, and that it has Browser Rendering Write permission. Also verify that the account ID in the URL is correct.

The endpoint rejects a field or request body
Screenshot and snapshot are distinct operations. Check the schema for the route you called and remove or rename fields that belong to a different operation. Cloudflare’s API overview identifies both routes; the snapshot reference documents snapshot-specific behavior.
The screenshot is blank or misses late content
Change the navigation wait behavior or use an appropriate supported waitFor* condition for the page. A navigation event alone may not mean that client-rendered content, images, or other delayed elements are ready. Avoid an unnecessarily broad wait condition when a specific condition can express readiness more directly.
The decoded image cannot be opened
For snapshot responses, confirm that you extracted the base64 screenshot field rather than an encoded JSON string or another output field, then base64-decode it before writing the file. For the direct screenshot route, follow its current documented response format instead of applying snapshot decoding assumptions.

Limits, usage, and reliability considerations
Cloudflare’s July 28, 2025 pricing announcement said billing would begin August 20, 2025 and listed these Browser Rendering terms for Workers plans. They are dated figures, not a guarantee of current account terms; verify plan details and usage in your Cloudflare dashboard and the pricing announcement.

Cloudflare’s March 4, 2026 changelog reports the Browser Rendering REST API rate limit for Workers Paid plans increased from 3 requests per second (180 per minute) to 10 requests per second (600 per minute). Confirm current applicable limits before designing a high-volume workload. The figure is specific to the stated Workers Paid context, not a universal rate for every account or plan. The cited Cloudflare documentation describes API controls but does not establish comparative rendering benchmarks or guarantee identical results across all target sites. Test representative pages and account for site-specific load behavior when estimating throughput and reliability.
