What “mobile screenshot” means in this workflow
The Apify workflow renders a webpage using a configured mobile viewport; the documented steps do not require an actual phone. The viewport controls the browser’s available page dimensions, while the device scale factor controls output pixel density. A screenshot made this way is useful for checking responsive layouts, recording a mobile-style landing page or comparing page presentation. It does not establish exact fidelity to every physical phone, browser or responsive breakpoint.
Capture a mobile website screenshot with Apify
- Open the Website Screenshot Generator Actor. Provide the public page URL you want to capture. The cited workflow documents public page capture; it does not establish that the Actor bypasses logins or other access controls.
- Choose the capture scope. Select viewport capture for the visible screen area, or full-page capture when you need the scrollable page. The Actor listing also describes an optional selector for capturing a specific page element.
- Set the mobile viewport. Enable mobile viewport mode and enter dimensions. The example for mobile landing pages uses 390 × 844. Treat that as a practical example, not a universal phone size.
- Choose device scale factor. The landing-page example uses 2x; another Apify example demonstrates 3x. Neither value is established as best for every task. Higher density changes the output pixel dimensions, so choose based on the detail and file size you need.
- Select output format. The Actor offers PNG, JPEG or PDF. PNG is used in the mobile landing-page example; choose based on how you will use the result.
- Configure waiting. Select a page-load wait option and add a delay if the site needs extra time to render. One example uses a page-load wait with an additional 1,000 ms delay; that is an example configuration, not a requirement for every site.
- Run the Actor and inspect its output. Retrieve the screenshot file and review the run’s dataset metadata. Example fields include URL, final URL, status, title, screenshot key and URL, dimensions, format, capture time and error.

For a documentation page captured in both desktop and mobile styles, the cited example also uses 390 × 844, 2x, mobile viewport enabled, viewport capture and PNG for its mobile configuration. A separate Apify Actor example—not the Website Screenshot Generator settings described above—uses 390 × 844, 3x density, an iPhone user agent, viewport-only capture and JPEG. Do not assume those distinct Actor options are interchangeable.
What to check in the result
- Confirm the final URL and status in the dataset, especially if the page redirected.
- Check the reported dimensions and format against your requested configuration.
- Open the screenshot and verify that the relevant content finished rendering; adjust the wait behavior if the capture is incomplete.
- Use the recorded error field and status to distinguish a page or capture problem from an expected screenshot.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot looks like a desktop page
Check that mobile viewport mode is enabled and that the dimensions are the intended mobile-style values. A width alone does not prove the page rendered as it would on a particular physical phone.

Images or dynamic content are missing
The page may not have finished rendering when the capture started. Use the Actor’s page-load wait option and, if needed, add a delay. The documented 1,000 ms extra delay is only one example; tune waiting to the target page rather than assuming it fits all sites.
The image is not the whole page
Viewport capture and full-page capture have different scopes. Choose full-page mode for the scrollable page, or keep viewport mode when you need only the first visible screen.

The output looks too small or too large
Review both the viewport dimensions and device scale factor. The examples show 2x and 3x configurations, but do not define one correct density for all purposes. Also check the reported output dimensions in the dataset.
The Actor cannot capture a page that requires sign-in
The cited workflow establishes public-page capture, not login handling or access-control bypass. Do not assume a successful capture of an authenticated page without confirming that the Actor supports the required access method.
