Then check whether the images appear in a normal browser, try a different navigation wait condition or a short post-load delay, and inspect the run logs. These settings can help with late-rendered content, but the official Actor’s documented inputs do not guarantee image loading or provide a dedicated image-wait or scroll-to-bottom option.
Confirm which Apify Actor you ran
Apify Store has similarly named screenshot Actors with different inputs. The troubleshooting below applies to Apify’s official Website Screenshot Generator, apify/screenshot-url, which creates an image from a specified URL and stores it in a key-value store. Check the Actor ID on the run page before changing settings; do not assume an input documented by a community Actor is available in this one.
If you used Apify’s Website Content Crawler instead, that is a different kind of tool. In an issue response, Apify representative Jindřich Bär explained that the crawler is for text extraction and loads pages “without CSS styles, images, etc.” He recommended the Website Screenshot Generator for webpage screenshots. Check whether the page loads the images outside Apify
- Open the exact target URL in a regular browser.
- Use approximately the same viewport width and height as the Actor run. Responsive sites may show different content or image variants at different sizes.
- Wait for the page to render and, if the missing images are farther down, scroll to them.
- Check whether the images load there. If not, investigate the page, image URLs, access requirements, or the site’s own behavior before treating the screenshot as the only problem.
This comparison helps separate a page-level problem from capture timing or viewport differences. It does not establish that the Actor can load every image that a browser can display.

Adjust navigation timing one setting at a time
In the official Actor’s input, waitUntil controls when navigation is considered successful. Its default is load; the documented choices are load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2. A navigation condition is not a guarantee that every image is visible or has loaded.
- Try one alternative
waitUntilvalue and compare the resulting screenshot with the original. - Use
delaySecsto wait after navigation before capture. It defaults to0and accepts values from0to120seconds. Try a modest delay as an experiment for content rendered by scripts after the initial page load. - Change one value per run so you can tell which change affected the result.
networkidle0 or networkidle2 may not be suitable for every site, particularly when network activity persists. Compare results rather than treating any one option as a universal fix. The Actor documentation lists these choices but does not prescribe a universally best wait condition.

Check below-the-fold and lazy-loaded images
Some pages defer loading images until they approach the visible area. If an image is missing only when it is below the initial viewport, check whether the capture workflow scrolls the page before taking the screenshot. The official apify/screenshot-url schema reviewed here does not document a dedicated waitForImages or scroll-to-bottom input. Do not copy such settings from a differently maintained Actor and expect them to work here.
For comparison, the community-maintained i-scraper/website-screenshot schema describes a waitForImages option that auto-scrolls full pages and waits briefly for visible images. The community-maintained jancurn/screenshot-taker documents navigation wait choices and an optional delay. Their inputs and behavior should not be attributed to Apify’s official Actor.

Distinguish slow navigation from failed image requests
The official Actor documents pageLoadTimeoutSecs from 1 to 180 seconds, with a default of 60, and pageMaxRetryCount from 0 to 10, with a default of 2. If navigation itself is slow or intermittently times out, a longer timeout or additional retry may help the run complete. These settings address navigation errors or timeouts; the schema does not say that they retry individual failed image requests.
- Open the run result and logs, and check whether the run reports a navigation timeout or other error.
- If navigation timed out, test a longer page-load timeout within the documented range.
- If navigation fails intermittently, test a higher retry count within the documented range.
- Compare the screenshot and run outcome after each change. A successful navigation alone does not prove that image resources loaded.
When to choose a different capture method
If you specifically need lazy-loaded images from far down a page, choose an Actor whose current schema explicitly supports scrolling or image waiting, and verify that it also meets your needs for selector waits, full-page capture, viewport sizing, and output format. Confirm whether the Actor is maintained by Apify or by a community developer. The official Website Screenshot Generator documents viewport width and height and JPEG or PNG output, but the schema reviewed here does not document an image-wait or scroll-to-bottom setting. Current prices and comparative performance are not established here.

Will more retries make missing images load?
Not necessarily. The documented retries address navigation errors or timeouts, not individual failed image requests.
