For turning files into a looping live output, Nimble Streamer is the more directly relevant of these two products. Its Server Playlist feature is documented for building outgoing streams from files and live sources, with loop controls. AWS Elemental MediaPackage has a different job: it packages an upstream live feed for downstream playback. The sources reviewed do not document MediaPackage as a local-file playlist scheduler or as a tool that creates and publishes a YouTube loop on its own.

They solve different parts of a streaming workflow
The key distinction is playout versus packaging. Playout decides what content goes out and when; packaging prepares an incoming stream for playback through specified endpoints. Nimble Streamer documents a playlist feature that can generate a live output from file and live-source blocks. That difference matters in cost and implementation too. Comparing the two as interchangeable encoders obscures the extra playout component needed in a MediaPackage workflow and the license prerequisite for Nimble playlists.

When Nimble Streamer fits a YouTube loop
Nimble is the more relevant of the two if you need a server-side playlist that turns recorded material into a live output. Softvelum’s Playout Wizard describes defining a stream, adding file paths or live sources, arranging blocks, and enabling loop behavior. Its playlist documentation describes controls including MaxIterations and TotalDuration; choose settings against the current documentation and the schedule you actually want. Account for the Live Transcoder requirement
Server Playlist requires the Live Transcoder package/license. Include that requirement when estimating cost and planning deployment; the playlist feature should not be treated as a standalone, license-free loop function. The wizard is useful for configuring the playlist, but it does not remove the need to provision the required package.

Check protocol support without treating it as a YouTube guarantee
Softvelum’s protocol matrix, marked last updated August 2026, lists RTMP as both an input and output protocol. That establishes Nimble’s stated RTMP support, not that every output setting is accepted by YouTube or that a particular stream key, account, or continuous-stream policy is eligible. When MediaPackage fits—and what it does not replace
MediaPackage makes sense as part of a larger AWS live-delivery chain when an upstream encoder is already producing a supported feed and downstream players or a CDN need packaged outputs. It is documented for live, video-on-demand, live-to-VOD, and catch-up TV workflows. It is not the documented component that chooses local video files, assembles a playlist, or originates a file-based YouTube loop. AWS MediaPackage overview
Version matters for MediaPackage setup
AWS documentation distinguishes MediaPackage v1 and v2 workflows. In the cited v1 live flow, an upstream encoder sends a live HLS stream to MediaPackage, which packages content for downstream requests. The v2 flow describes an upstream HLS source sent with AWS Signature Version 4 authorization; a player or CDN requests an endpoint, and MediaPackage dynamically packages according to endpoint settings. v2 input and endpoint formats
AWS lists HLS and CMAF over HTTPS as supported MediaPackage v2 live inputs. The source must contain at least one video track, and input segments must not be encrypted. Its endpoint types include TS/HLS and CMAF/HLS or DASH. These are MediaPackage input and delivery details, not a recipe for sending a playlist directly to YouTube. AWS v2 supported inputs and outputs

Neither product is a like-for-like cost comparison: Nimble’s documented playlist requires its Live Transcoder package/license, while MediaPackage belongs in an AWS workflow with an upstream source and downstream delivery configuration. AWS costs depend on the services and usage in the actual architecture; the cited documentation does not establish a single all-in price for a YouTube loop.
