Keep Selenium in charge of browser navigation and interactions, then add Percy snapshot calls at the UI states you want to compare. Install Percy’s SDK for your test language, set PERCY_TOKEN in the test environment, and run the test command through percy exec. The examples below cover the documented Python and Java integrations; use the SDK and method for your language rather than mixing them.
How the Percy and Selenium integration works
Selenium continues to drive the browser: it opens pages, fills forms, clicks controls, and waits for application content. Percy’s language-specific SDK marks a browser state for visual capture. The Percy CLI wraps the test command so snapshots can be sent to the Percy project associated with your token.
A snapshot is most useful after the test has produced the exact state you want to compare—for example, a saved settings page or an open menu—not immediately after navigation if the page is still loading. Percy’s Selenium visual testing guide recommends waiting for key content and using a consistent viewport to reduce differences caused by timing or capture conditions.
Before you start
- An existing test suite that uses Selenium WebDriver and a supported language integration.
- A Percy project and its project token. Store the token as an environment variable named
PERCY_TOKEN; do not commit it to source control. - Percy CLI and the SDK package for the language used by the tests.
- A browser driver and test environment that can run the suite. Keep the browser and viewport settings consistent between runs where practical.
Integrate Percy with Python Selenium tests
Install the CLI and Python SDK
Add @percy/cli as a development dependency using the package manager appropriate to your project, then install the Python package:

pip install percy-selenium
Check the official Percy Python Selenium SDK instructions for current installation details and compatibility.
Add a snapshot at the intended state
Import percy_snapshot from percy, then call it with the Selenium driver and a descriptive, unique snapshot name. For example:
from percy import percy_snapshot
# After the test has navigated, interacted, and waited for the desired state:
percy_snapshot(browser, "Account settings - saved state")
Here, browser is your Selenium WebDriver instance. Put the call after the test has reached the state that should be compared, and give each snapshot a name that identifies both the page and the state.

Set the token and run the test through Percy
Set PERCY_TOKEN in the environment that runs your tests. Then prefix the test command with percy exec --. For example, if your test command is python -m pytest:
Recommended Free Tools
percy exec -- python -m pytest
When Percy is running and the project token is set, the documented integration creates a Percy build and uploads snapshots. Use your suite’s actual test command after the separator.
Integrate Percy with Java Selenium tests
Add the dependencies
Add @percy/cli as a development dependency and include the Maven dependency io.percy:percy-java-selenium. The Percy repository example shows version 1.2.0; verify the repository or package registry for the current version and compatibility before using a version in a new project.

Set the token and run the Java test command
Make PERCY_TOKEN available to the test process, then run your existing Java test command under Percy CLI:
percy exec -- mvn test
Replace mvn test with the command your project uses to run the relevant tests. With Percy active and a valid project token, the integration creates a build and uploads the captured snapshots.
Make snapshots stable and useful
Wait for the state, not just the URL
A page can reach its URL before its meaningful content is ready. Use Selenium’s normal waits for the element or condition that signals the UI state under test, then take the Percy snapshot. For example, wait for a confirmation message to become visible after saving rather than capturing immediately after clicking the save button.

Keep capture conditions consistent
Use a consistent viewport and wait for key content before capture. This helps avoid visual differences caused by a changing viewport or incomplete loading rather than an application change. Choose checkpoints that correspond to states users actually see, such as a completed form, expanded navigation, or validation error.
Name checkpoints for review
Names such as Account settings - saved state make the page and condition recognizable during review. Avoid generic names that leave reviewers guessing which interaction produced the image, and follow the SDK’s uniqueness requirement.
Node.js Selenium suites
Percy’s March 31, 2026 overview describes a Node.js Selenium workflow using @percy/selenium-webdriver and @percy/cli, with a snapshot after navigation and the test command run under npx percy exec. Because the focused official SDK instructions cited here cover Python and Java, check the current Node SDK documentation for exact installation steps and API syntax before adding a version-specific recipe. The general workflow remains to set PERCY_TOKEN, capture after the desired state is ready, and run tests through Percy CLI. See the Percy overview.
Common problems and fixes
- No Percy build or uploaded snapshots: Confirm that
PERCY_TOKENis set in the environment used by the test process, that the token belongs to the intended project, and that the command is wrapped withpercy exec --. - Python import error for
percy: Check thatpercy-seleniumis installed in the same Python environment that runs the tests, including the active virtual environment. - Java cannot resolve
Percy: Verify the Maven dependency coordinates and that the project has reloaded its dependencies; consult the SDK repository for current package details. - Snapshot captures the wrong or incomplete UI: Move the snapshot call after the interaction and a condition-based wait for the intended content. A fixed delay may be less reliable when load times vary.
- Unexpected visual differences between runs: Check that viewport settings and the point at which the snapshot is taken are consistent, and ensure key content has loaded before capture.
- Duplicate or unclear snapshots: Give each checkpoint a descriptive name and ensure names are unique within the snapshot set.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a one-off or automated website screenshot rather than a Percy checkpoint inside an existing Selenium test, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF; for example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot:
