For a single API request that returns a rendered screenshot, Browserless is the better-documented fit. For recurring checks that record page changes and keep screenshot-related history, PageCrawl.io is closer to the job. They overlap around screenshots, but they are not equivalent one-shot screenshot APIs. If you want a direct screenshot endpoint with clean captures and transparent billing, try ScreenshotNeo first.

Choose by workflow, not by the word “screenshot”

Need Closer fit Why
Render a URL or HTML now and receive an image Browserless Its documented POST /screenshot endpoint returns an image in a selected format.
Check pages repeatedly, retain change history, and integrate change notifications PageCrawl.io Its core workflow schedules website monitoring; screenshot data is part of that monitoring context.

Start with the result you need. A renderer is usually called when an application asks for a screenshot; a monitor is configured to revisit pages and report what changed. Pricing units and workflows differ, so a plan comparison alone cannot establish which is cheaper for a given task.

Browserless: on-demand screenshot rendering

What its screenshot endpoint does

Browserless documents POST /screenshot for capturing a page from a URL or supplied HTML. It supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP, with controls for full-page capture, quality, clipping, viewport and device scale, element selection, wait conditions, navigation, lazy-load scrolling, and scripts or styles injected before capture. Its REST API suite also includes rendered HTML and PDF generation, among other browser tasks; see the REST API overview.

The endpoint is suited to a stateless task: submit a capture request and get an image response. Browserless states, “REST APIs are stateless, single-action endpoints.” Cookies and browser state do not persist between REST calls. If a capture depends on logging in, clicking through a multi-step flow, or keeping state between actions, evaluate Browserless browser sessions or BrowserQL rather than assuming separate REST calls share a session.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Bot challenges and reliability

Browserless warns that bot detection may result in a blank capture, CAPTCHA, access-denied page, or missing elements. It points to its /unblock endpoint and proxy options for some cases, but this is not a guarantee that a particular protected site will render. Test the actual target URL and inspect the returned image before building a production dependency on it.

PageCrawl.io: scheduled monitoring with screenshot data

What its API is for

PageCrawl’s API and webhooks support creating monitors and integrating change notifications. Its feature index lists visual tracking and screenshot archiving, and an example API payload includes page_screenshot_image. That establishes screenshot-related data in its monitoring workflow; it does not establish a documented endpoint equivalent to Browserless’s on-demand renderer. See the PageCrawl features index for its monitoring context.

The practical sequence is to configure pages to monitor, select a checking cadence within the available plan, and consume the resulting change information or webhook integration. This suits teams that need a continuing record of page changes more naturally than a one-off image request.

Pricing units and the dated plan snapshot

PageCrawl’s pricing is organized around monitored pages, checks, check frequency, history, users, and related monitoring features—not a published per-screenshot charge. The official pricing page, accessed 2026-10-03, displayed the following figures. Paid prices shown are annual-billed amounts; taxes may apply. Because quotas and prices can change, verify the live page before purchase.

The same pricing page listed a managed web-unblocker add-on at $10/GB and residential proxies included on Enterprise and Ultimate. Those are monitoring-plan details, not directly comparable to Browserless without checking Browserless’s current plan and usage terms. Current Browserless pricing was not established here, so there is no sound basis for a numeric price comparison.

How to compare them for your workload

Use Browserless when each request needs an image

  • Your application needs a screenshot as the immediate response to a request.
  • You want documented controls for format, viewport, full-page or clipped capture, selectors, waits, or injected scripts and styles.
  • The capture can be performed as a single stateless action, or you are prepared to use a stateful Browserless option for more involved interaction.

Use PageCrawl when the screenshot is part of monitoring

  • You need pages revisited on a schedule rather than rendered only when requested.
  • You want change tracking, a history of monitoring results, or notification integrations.
  • Your workload is better described by pages, checks, and cadence than by individual screenshot API calls.

Pilot dynamic and protected pages

For either service, verify the exact target site. JavaScript rendering, lazy content, login requirements, and automated-access defenses can change what a capture contains. Browserless documents waits and lazy-load scrolling, but bot challenges can still interfere. PageCrawl’s monitoring and unblocker options do not prove that every page will be accessible. Test representative pages and inspect both the image and monitoring result before scaling.

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first

If the requirement is a screenshot API rather than scheduled monitoring, ScreenshotNeo is a direct alternative: one GET request returns a clean screenshot or PDF, and only clean shots are billed. It accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

For a quick call, the cURL example is:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Other supported examples:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Common evaluation mistakes

  • Treating monitoring as a screenshot endpoint: PageCrawl documents screenshots within a monitoring workflow; the documented on-demand image response described here is Browserless’s screenshot endpoint.
  • Comparing unlike billing units: PageCrawl’s plans count monitored pages and checks. Do not translate those quotas into a per-image price without workload-specific usage data.
  • Assuming browser state carries across REST requests: Browserless REST calls are stateless. Use a session-oriented approach for flows requiring persistent state.
  • Assuming a bot challenge will be bypassed: Browserless describes possible mitigations, not universal access. Confirm results against your own pages.
  • Using stale pricing: PageCrawl’s figures above are a snapshot of its official pricing page accessed 2026-10-03. Recheck the page before budgeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PageCrawl document a one-off screenshot endpoint like Browserless?

The documented PageCrawl material describes screenshot data within monitoring; it does not establish an equivalent on-demand image-render endpoint.

Can Browserless capture a page that requires login?

A single REST call does not retain cookies or state between calls. For multi-step or persistent-session workflows, evaluate Browserless browser sessions or BrowserQL.
