Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a cleaner VisualScraper screenshot, hide the banner’s specific outer element at capture time—if your version of VisualScraper supports pre-capture CSS or element removal. If you need to test whether a visitor accepts or rejects cookies, do not hide the banner: use its real controls and verify the resulting consent state. The available documentation does not establish VisualScraper’s exact version, settings, or supported customization options, so the steps below are a general selector workflow, not verified VisualScraper menu instructions.
Choose between a clean screenshot and a consent test
These are different jobs. A screenshot records what is rendered at capture time; hiding a banner can make a visual capture cleaner, but it does not record consent or prove that a choice was made. The page’s consent state and behavior may remain unchanged.
| Goal | Approach | What the screenshot represents |
|---|---|---|
| Review page design or capture a less obstructed visual | Hide or remove the banner’s narrowly selected container during capture, if the workflow supports it. | The page view with that element omitted. It is not evidence of an accept or reject choice. |
| Test a consent flow | Keep the banner visible and interact with the intended accept, reject, or settings control. | The result of the actual interaction, subject to verifying that the site stored and applied the expected state. |
Find a precise selector for the banner
- Open the target page in a browser and use developer tools to inspect the banner.
- Identify the smallest stable outer element that encloses the complete banner. Prefer a distinctive ID or class tied to that component.
- Avoid broad selectors based on generic words such as “cookie” or “overlay.” They can match unrelated page content and remove more than intended.
- Check whether the banner has a separate backdrop or dimming layer. If so, identify it separately rather than hiding a broad ancestor that also contains the page.
For example, if inspection shows the banner is contained in an element with a distinctive class, a selector targeting that class is usually safer than a rule targeting every element whose text or class happens to include “cookie.” Use only the selector you verified on the actual page.
Apply and verify the change in VisualScraper
The exact VisualScraper interface and support for custom CSS or element removal are not verified here. If your installed version offers a pre-capture styling or removal facility, use that facility with the selector you inspected. Do not assume a menu name or API parameter that your version’s documentation does not specify.

- Apply the selector only in the screenshot workflow, not as a site-wide change.
- Capture one page first and inspect the resulting image.
- Check for a remaining backdrop, dimmed page, shifted layout, locked scrolling, or a banner that appears again after delayed loading or scrolling.
- If the result is correct and the selector affects only the banner, then use it for the other intended captures.
A related documented example is Sitepager: its documentation says to add the selector in visual-check settings and confirm the result on one page before scaling. That describes Sitepager, not VisualScraper, and should not be treated as proof of VisualScraper support: Sitepager documentation.
What to do if the banner remains or the page looks wrong
- Banner still visible: Reinspect the page; the selector may target a child element instead of the whole banner, or the site may render a different banner variant.
- Backdrop or dimming remains: Inspect for a separate backdrop element and target it specifically, if appropriate. Avoid hiding a page-wide container.
- Page content disappears: The selector is too broad. Replace it with a selector unique to the banner and retest on one capture.
- Banner returns after capture starts: It may load later or reappear after scrolling. Check the rendered page at the relevant point in the capture workflow; do not infer VisualScraper-specific wait controls without documentation.
- Consent behavior is the thing being tested: Remove the hiding rule and perform the intended interaction with the actual banner controls. Then verify the site’s resulting behavior separately.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo’s screenshot API can apply cleanup before capture: it accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed; bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the response identifying the page verdict and billing status in headers. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents, with tools including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. See ScreenshotNeo for product details.
One GET request returns an image or PDF. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of the target page; replace the URL as needed:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details. The service offers 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for the free plan.
