To play a folder of MP3s continuously on YouTube Live, send the computer’s audio and a visual feed through a live-stream encoder. YouTube supplies the stream URL and key in Live Control Room; the encoder sends the feed to YouTube. The exact repeat-all and audio-routing steps depend on the MP3 player and encoder you choose, so verify those steps in their current documentation rather than assuming every program works the same way.
What you need for a folder-based YouTube radio stream
This is a computer-based encoder workflow. The encoder must receive both the audio from your MP3 player and a video feed: even if the program is audio-only, YouTube Live receives an audiovisual stream. The video can be a static visual or other feed your chosen encoder supports.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- A computer with the MP3 folder and a player that can repeat the folder or playlist.
- An encoder configured to receive the player’s audio and a video feed.
- A stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity.
- Permission to stream every track and any other included material.
YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder routes to livestreaming. For files stored on a computer, the encoder route is the one suited to sending a computer-produced audio/video feed. YouTube’s official guidance does not establish the exact controls for repeating a folder or routing audio for a particular player/encoder pair; those details must be checked against the software you use.

Enable YouTube Live before setting up the stream
YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this well before your intended launch. See YouTube’s guidance on getting started with live streaming.

Configure the MP3 player and encoder
Make the folder repeat in your chosen player
Import the MP3 folder or create a playlist from its contents, then locate the player’s repeat-all or loop-playlist control. Confirm that it repeats the entire folder or playlist—not just the current track. Software interfaces differ, and the official YouTube instructions do not specify player controls; consult the current documentation for your player and test that playback returns to the first track after the last one.
Route the player’s audio into the encoder
Choose an audio input in the encoder that captures the MP3 player’s output. Depending on your software and operating system, this may use a system-audio capture option or a virtual audio device. Select the correct input, play a track, and watch or listen to the encoder’s audio meter or preview. The precise names and routing steps are software-specific and are not established by YouTube’s general setup guide.

- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
Provide a video feed
Add a visual source in the encoder, such as a still image or other supported visual. Check that the video is present in the encoder preview and that the audio is audible. YouTube’s live-stream encoder workflow sends an audiovisual feed; a folder of MP3 files by itself is not the complete stream.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select a stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain this workflow.
- In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the stream URL and key in the corresponding fields. Treat the key as a credential: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not share it publicly.
- Start the encoder’s feed, then check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. Confirm the picture, audio, and stream health.
- When the preview is correct, start the stream in Live Control Room or follow the encoder workflow shown there. If scheduling a broadcast, YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours beforehand and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event; those timings are preparation guidance, not an uptime guarantee.
Use YouTube’s audio and bandwidth recommendations
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends stereo audio at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Treat these as platform recommendations and a reasonable starting point, not a guarantee of a particular sound quality. For upload capacity, YouTube recommends keeping bandwidth above the total stream bitrate and allowing 20% headroom. Its live-streaming tips also recommend testing and monitoring the stream.

- Compact, feature-rich livestreaming USB audio mixer provides high-quality sound for desktop audio production
- Plug-and-play connectivity to computer or mobile device (no special drivers required)
- Loopback function makes it easy to mix mic and instrument inputs with background music, game sounds, or other audio input from a computer – and send the stereo mix back to the computer for streaming
- High-performance A/D converter with resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz provides crystal-clear output for voice and instruments
- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
- Test the actual MP3 playback, audio routing, and visual feed before going live.
- Check the encoder preview and Live Control Room preview for sound, picture, and sync.
- Confirm your available upload capacity exceeds the stream’s total bitrate, with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Monitor stream health after launch; a successful preview does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
Check music rights before you go live
Only stream music and other material for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. Its systems may replace a stream with a placeholder, warn you to stop using the material, temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream, or terminate it following a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
If you have licensed third-party music, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. YouTube’s live-stream terms state that the provider represents and warrants that it has the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. This is a platform requirement, not individualized legal advice.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
YouTube does not receive a signal
Check that the encoder is running, that the stream URL and key match the stream selected in Live Control Room, and that the encoder is sending the feed. If the key may have been exposed or copied incorrectly, use the controls in Live Control Room to manage it and update the encoder accordingly.

The stream has video but no sound
Confirm that the MP3 player is playing, the encoder is using the intended audio input, and the input meter moves during playback. Recheck the player-to-encoder audio routing in the current documentation for both applications.

The music stops after the last track
Check that repeat-all or playlist-loop is enabled, rather than single-track repeat. Test the playlist through its end before relying on it live; the repeat control and behavior vary by player.
The preview buffers or stream health is poor
Check upload capacity against the total stream bitrate and preserve the 20% headroom YouTube recommends. Test the actual connection and monitor the stream-health indicators in Live Control Room. A connection that works for ordinary browsing may still be insufficient for a continuous live feed.
YouTube interrupts the broadcast
Check for copyright notices or other alerts in Live Control Room. A Content ID match can interrupt a live stream even when music has been licensed if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner. Resolve the rights issue before restarting.
