You do not need access to a website’s source code to capture what it looks like: open the page in a browser and use its screenshot controls. For a one-off review, Firefox can save a full page, the visible area, or a selected region. Choose a full-page image for layout context and a viewport or region image when reviewers need readable detail.
Choose the right capture for the review
| Capture type | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Full page | Reviewers need to understand the overall layout, including content below the fold. | Text and details can become difficult to read when the entire image is scaled down. |
| Visible area | The issue is in the current browser viewport or reviewers need legible text. | It does not show content outside the visible browser area. |
| Selected region | You want to focus attention on a specific component or interaction. | It leaves out surrounding context unless you capture that separately. |
| Inspected element | The review concerns one particular page element. | It may not show how the element fits into the full page. |
Firefox documents full-page, visible-area, and region captures, along with an option to save the result or copy it to the clipboard. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions.
Capture a page in Firefox
- Open the public page or a page you are authorized to view. Set the browser to the state the review concerns, such as the relevant tab, scroll position, or visible dialog.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. If the shortcut or menu differs in your Firefox version, use the current screenshot command in the browser menu.
- Choose Save full page to capture the page beyond the viewport, or Save visible for what is currently on screen. To capture only part of the page, drag across the region you want.
- Save the image or copy it to the clipboard, depending on how you plan to add it to the review.
- Open the saved image and check that the relevant content is visible and readable before sharing it.
Capture just one element with Firefox Developer Tools
- Open Firefox Developer Tools and select the Inspector.
- Find the element you want to show.
- Open the element’s context menu and choose Screenshot Node.
Firefox’s Web Console also provides a :screenshot helper. Its documented options include full-page capture, a delay, a filename, a device-pixel-ratio setting, and a CSS selector. These are useful when a capture needs to wait for a page state or target a specific element; consult Mozilla’s screenshot documentation for the current syntax.
Annotate and prepare the image for review
Add arrows, boxes, or short callouts only when they help reviewers locate the issue. TechSmith documents annotation tools in Snagit, while the OpenCapture project describes annotation and blur tools. Those are product-specific descriptions, not a guarantee about every capture tool.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Review the image at its intended viewing size. A full-page screenshot may need a second, closer capture for small text or a specific control.
- Redact account details, personal information, internal URLs, or other content the audience should not see.
- Use a clear filename that includes the page or topic and capture date. In the review message, include the source page URL and capture date, and say whether the image shows the whole page or only one section.
A screenshot can expose anything visible in the browser. Before using an extension or desktop app with sensitive pages, check its permissions, where it stores or sends images, and how it handles exports. Firefox’s telemetry note applies to Firefox; OpenCapture’s local-processing and privacy statements are claims by that project, not a general property of browser extensions. See Mozilla’s Firefox documentation and the OpenCapture project for their respective details.
When a browser feature is not enough
Use a browser extension selectively
An extension can combine full-page, viewport, or region capture with editing and export. For example, the OpenCapture project describes those capture modes, annotation, blur, and PNG/PDF export. Its feature and privacy statements are project-maintained; review the permissions and data handling yourself before capturing sensitive material. The Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage includes a changelog with September 2026 dates, so extension behavior and listings can change over time: GoFullPage listing.

Consider desktop capture software for recurring work
For frequent reviews that need scrolling capture, annotations, or an organized capture library, Snagit is an optional paid desktop tool. TechSmith describes vertical and horizontal scrolling capture, annotation, and library features. It also describes use with different browsers and dynamic pages when the user is logged in through the browser; those are vendor-described capabilities, not an independent performance test. TechSmith Support’s article confirming scrolling capture was updated June 11, 2026. See TechSmith’s Snagit page and its scrolling-capture support article.

Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot command is missing or the shortcut does nothing: Browser menus and shortcuts can vary by version. In Firefox, try right-clicking an empty part of the page and choosing Take Screenshot, or use the browser’s current screenshot menu.
- The full-page image is hard to read: Capture the relevant viewport or a selected region as well. A full-page image gives context, while a closer capture keeps details legible.
- The wrong content appears in the image: Return to the page, set the intended state, and capture again. For a delayed or element-specific capture in Firefox, use the documented
:screenshothelper options or capture the inspected element. - The image includes private information: Do not share it as-is. Redact the sensitive area with a tool you have checked, then inspect the exported image before sending it.
- An extension or capture app requests broad permissions: Check why it needs them and how it handles image data. If that cannot be established to your satisfaction, use the browser’s built-in capture feature instead.
