For a prerecorded playlist that should repeat continuously on YouTube Live, StreamNeo is the simplest cloud option to try first: upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live without leaving a computer running. Restream is the best-documented alternative in the reviewed product documentation for both scheduled recorded videos and playlists that play as one stream. Streamloop also describes a cloud-based continuous-playlist service, while StreamYard is better documented for scheduling a single prerecorded broadcast than for looping a playlist.

The key distinction is that scheduling one video to appear live is not necessarily the same as running a playlist on repeat. Choose based on whether you need unattended looping, a scheduled one-off, or hands-on control through a local encoder.

Which FFmpeg alternative fits your YouTube Live use case?

StreamNeo is #1 for a 24/7 YouTube stream when you want uploaded videos to keep playing from the cloud: it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. Among the other services reviewed here, Restream has the clearest documentation for both scheduled prerecorded streams and playlists. Streamloop describes a similar cloud-first continuous-loop use case, but its capabilities and performance statements are vendor claims. StreamYard documents an automatic prerecorded broadcast workflow, not a repeating playlist.

Option Looping prerecorded playlists Can run while your computer is off? Scheduling Production controls and setup
StreamNeo Yes; 24/7 looping and playlists Yes; runs in the cloud Use the cloud service to start the stream Upload, add a YouTube stream key, and go live; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps
Restream Yes; its Help Center describes playlists playing a series of videos as one stream, and its product page describes looping Its Help Center says scheduled recordings can appear live while the user is offline Queue and schedule prerecorded videos, according to its product page Hosted prerecorded and playlist workflows; confirm current plan limits before choosing
Streamloop Vendor describes continuous playlist streaming Vendor describes cloud operation without a computer running Vendor describes scheduling and playlist order controls Cloud-first service; its advertised resolution and performance are vendor claims, not independently tested here
StreamYard Not established by the reviewed help article Yes for its documented automatic prerecorded broadcast workflow Can automatically stream a prerecorded video at a selected time MP4 with H.264; help documentation says paid-plan output is up to 1080p, and automatic prerecorded broadcasts lack on-stream comments and regular studio overlay/media controls
Local encoder, such as OBS Depends on the software setup; a YouTube-compatible encoder alone does not establish unattended playlist looping No, not if the encoder runs on your computer Depends on the encoder and any separate automation You configure the encoder with YouTube’s live server URL and stream key; more hands-on control and maintenance

Restream’s Help Center names OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm as popular encoders that can connect using Restream’s RTMP details. That establishes encoder compatibility in that workflow, not a built-in repeating-playlist feature for each program.

StreamNeo: cloud looping for YouTube

StreamNeo is a Yorker Media cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. The cloud continues playback, so your computer and home connection do not need to remain on. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-based live production tool.

Restream: strongest documented fit for playlists

Restream’s Help Center says recorded videos can be scheduled to appear live while you are offline, and that its Playlists feature can play a series of videos as one stream. Its prerecorded-video product page describes queueing, scheduling, and looping videos. This makes Restream the best-documented non-StreamNeo fit in this comparison for a creator whose main requirement is a playlist rather than a single scheduled video. The service’s own visibility and quality language should be treated as marketing, not as independent performance evidence.

Restream also supports workflows using external encoders, including OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm, according to its Help Center. If you use an external encoder, check whether you are using it for a live production or a separate automated playlist workflow; compatibility with a service does not itself prove unattended looping.

Streamloop: cloud-first candidate, with vendor claims to verify

Streamloop’s site describes turning prerecorded playlists into continuous live streams, with scheduling, playlist order controls, and cloud operation. It advertises resolutions up to 4K/60fps and displays pricing and credit information. Those are vendor statements; no independent uptime, output-quality, or billing assessment is established here. Review its current service details and limits directly before relying on it for a continuous channel.

StreamYard: a scheduled broadcast, not a documented repeat playlist

StreamYard’s help article describes automatically streaming a prerecorded video at a selected time. It specifies an MP4 file using H.264 encoding, an upload bitrate of up to 10 Mbps, and paid-plan output up to 1080p. The same article says this automatic workflow cannot show comments on-stream or control overlays and other media assets as a standard live studio can. Because the reviewed documentation covers a single uploaded video, do not assume it can continuously repeat a playlist without confirming that capability with StreamYard.

Using a local encoder instead

A local encoder is appropriate if you want to keep the workflow on a computer you control and are willing to manage playback, the live connection, and recovery yourself. YouTube accepts software and standalone hardware encoders. YouTube’s official guidance describes the connection requirement: enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. You can find current setup guidance at YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming.

  1. Prepare a YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Follow the current prompts for the event and stream settings; YouTube’s interface and rules can change.
  2. Copy the connection details. In the stream settings, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to stream to your channel.
  3. Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming destination settings. Confirm the encoder is set to the intended video and audio inputs or playback source.
  4. Set up the loop and test it. Configure playback and repeat behavior in the software you choose, if supported, and verify that it reconnects or resumes as you expect. The fact that OBS, vMix, Wirecast, or Ecamm can be connected to a streaming service does not establish that each has a built-in unattended playlist loop.
  5. Start the encoder and verify YouTube receives the stream. Check Live Control Room for the incoming feed and any warnings before relying on it for a long run.

With this approach, the computer, encoder, video files, and internet connection must remain available for the duration of the stream. You are also responsible for diagnosing interruptions and restarting playback or the encoder.

YouTube rules and long-stream planning

Copyright and permission

Only stream videos, music, images, and other material you have the rights or permission to use. A prerecorded stream is still a public YouTube broadcast; using a playlist or encoder does not change copyright obligations. Check YouTube’s current policies and any licenses that apply to your content before starting a long-running stream.

Reused content and monetization

Looping a video does not guarantee monetization or make reused material eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization decisions are separate from whether a stream technically works. Make sure the channel and content satisfy the current YouTube Partner Program and monetization policies rather than assuming that continuous playback creates qualifying original content.

Archives for streams longer than 12 hours

YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous stream expected to run beyond that window, do not assume YouTube will create a complete replay; check the current guidance before going live and plan separately if preserving the full program matters.

Costs and trade-offs

Hosted services shift the ongoing work of keeping a stream connected away from your local computer, but their current total costs and comparable reliability records are not established for Restream, Streamloop, and StreamYard here. Check each provider’s current plan, playlist limits, storage rules, output constraints, and billing terms before committing. For StreamNeo, the same features are included at every billing duration; choose a term that suits your planned run rather than assuming a longer term adds features.

Troubleshooting a prerecorded YouTube Live stream

  • YouTube does not receive a signal: Recheck that the encoder is using the current YouTube server URL and the correct stream key. Make sure the key belongs to the event you are trying to start.
  • The stream starts but does not repeat: A scheduled prerecorded broadcast is not necessarily a playlist loop. Confirm the selected service or encoder workflow explicitly supports repeat playback or continuous playlists.
  • The stream stops when you leave: If the encoder is running on your computer, closing it, sleeping the computer, or losing the home connection can interrupt the broadcast. Use a cloud workflow if the stream must continue while your equipment is off.
  • StreamYard rejects the upload or output exceeds expectations: Check the documented MP4/H.264 input requirement, the 10 Mbps upload bitrate limit, and the paid-plan output limit of up to 1080p in its prerecorded workflow.
  • The replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for longer streams, consult the current YouTube guidance rather than expecting a complete archive.
  • A hosted service drops from YouTube: Check the service’s status and current troubleshooting guidance, then verify the event and key in YouTube Live Control Room. StreamNeo includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; this is a product feature, not a guarantee that every platform-side interruption has the same cause or outcome.
