To import a script, use the Scripts tab in the separate Streamlabs Chatbot application—not a verified built-in scripting workflow in the current Streamlabs Desktop editor. Streamlabs’ published import instructions are specifically for Streamlabs Chatbot; they require a legacy Python setup before you import a script ZIP. Because the guide’s runtime instructions are dated, check that the legacy app and workflow are still appropriate for your system before installing anything.
Streamlabs’ Chatbot Scripts guide was published in 2020 and last updated April 25, 2025. Its documentation and Chatbot product page do not establish that the Scripts tab is part of the current Streamlabs Desktop editor.
Before you start: identify the right Streamlabs app
“Streamlabs Desktop” and “Streamlabs Chatbot” are distinct product names in Streamlabs’ documentation. The script-import procedure below applies to the latter: it uses a Scripts tab and a Python directory setting. If you have only Streamlabs Desktop open and cannot find that tab, do not assume it is hidden in the editor; the reviewed documentation does not verify this workflow there.
Streamlabs also offers Cloudbot, a separate online bot workflow. Its guide covers enabling Cloudbot, assigning platform permissions, and configuring commands from a dashboard; it does not say Cloudbot imports Python scripts. See Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide.

What you need for the legacy script workflow
- The Streamlabs Chatbot application, with the bot and streamer accounts connected.
- A script supplied as a ZIP file.
- The Python version specified by Streamlabs’ legacy directions: Python 2.7.13, in the 32-bit/x86 version. The FAQ warns against Python 3 and x64 for this setup.
- The path to Python’s
Libfolder, not a folder namedLibs.
Python 2.7.13 is an obsolete, dated dependency, not a current general-purpose recommendation. Streamlabs’ instructions specify it for this particular legacy workflow; they do not establish current support status for the workflow or runtime. Avoid installing an outdated runtime casually, especially on a machine used for sensitive work. If you cannot verify that you need and can safely use this legacy setup, consider whether Cloudbot’s dashboard-configured commands meet your needs instead.

Set the Python library directory
In Streamlabs Chatbot, open the Scripts tab, then open its gear/settings control. Set Python 2.7.13 Directory to the Python installation’s
Libfolder. Verify the selected folder isLib, notLibs, and that it belongs to the 32-bit Python 2.7.13 installation. -
Choose and import the ZIP
Obtain the script ZIP from a source you trust. Streamlabs recommends its Chatbot Discord or someone you know well; that recommendation is not a security certification of any download. In the Scripts tab, click Import and select the script ZIP.

Check whether the import succeeded
Use the Scripts tab’s error view if the script does not load. Check the displayed error and confirm the configured Python version and
Lib-folder path before trying again. Do not run an unfamiliar script with elevated permissions or bypass operating-system security warnings as a troubleshooting shortcut.

Streamlabs’ FAQ, last updated April 10, 2025, describes its desktop Chatbot as Windows-only and says it must remain open and connected to stay in chat. Treat those as statements about the legacy desktop Chatbot described by that FAQ, not as verified limits of every current Streamlabs product. The reviewed documentation does not resolve whether the current Streamlabs Desktop release continues to expose or support the legacy Scripts workflow.
