If your YouTube radio stream drops when your Indian broadband reconnects or changes its public IP, first find out whether the encoder lost its internet connection or YouTube reported an encoder or stream-key error. YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a live stream, but its guidance does not establish that a public-IP change alone caused a particular drop. For broadcasters, test the encoder and outbound upload, isolate Wi-Fi, and ask your ISP whether the address change coincides with a brief WAN disconnection. If you are listening rather than broadcasting, use the separate playback checks below.
First identify which side of the stream is failing
“My stream dropped” can mean two different problems: a broadcaster’s encoder stopped sending video to YouTube Live, or a listener’s playback stopped on their device. The fixes are different. YouTube says a connectivity disruption can break a stream; the timing of a broadband reconnection is a useful clue, not proof that the IP change itself is the cause. YouTube’s streaming tips and live-stream troubleshooting guidance are aimed at locating the failure rather than attributing it to an IP address alone.
- If you broadcast: check whether the encoder still has internet access, what it reports, and the stream health shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- If you listen: compare playback on another device or connection and check whether other YouTube videos or services also stall.
Fix a broadcaster-side drop
1. Record what happens at the moment of the drop
At the next interruption, note the time, encoder message, YouTube Live Control Room stream-health notice, and whether the stream resumes by itself. Check whether the streaming computer or encoder can still reach other sites. If other services disconnect too, that points toward a broader connection interruption; if they work and only the broadcast fails, continue checking the encoder and YouTube ingest path.

Confirm that the encoder is still sending and that its local audio and video output look right. If its local output is unhealthy, check the encoder software version, CPU load, and audio/video inputs before changing network settings. YouTube recommends preparing and testing the encoder in advance; keeping a local recording during a test can help establish whether the source itself continued. 3. Test upload stability, not just download speed
A fast download result does not show that the connection can reliably send a live feed. Test the outbound upload connection, especially around the time of a drop. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload headroom and accounting for the combined bitrate of primary and backup streams. Compare the encoder’s total video and audio bitrate with the upload capacity that is actually available; a connection that barely meets the bitrate target leaves less room for fluctuations.
If upload tests are inconsistent, or other internet use drops at the same time, give your ISP the timestamps, test results, encoder error, and YouTube stream-health details. Ask whether a WAN disconnect or broadband-session reconnect occurs when the public IP changes. The available YouTube guidance does not establish how a particular Indian ISP handles address changes, so the ISP needs to confirm whether its address change coincides with an interruption on your line.

4. Use Ethernet to rule out Wi-Fi
If practical, connect the encoder directly to the router with Ethernet and repeat a controlled test. This removes Wi-Fi signal range and interference as variables. It cannot prevent a drop if the router loses its upstream connection to the ISP during a broadband reconnect or IP change. Treat a wired test as a diagnosis, not an IP-change cure.

5. Test failover before relying on it
If you have a backup encoder, test the transition before an important broadcast. YouTube suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable and confirming that playback moves to the backup. Schedule the test; do not disrupt an important live event to see whether failover works. Account for the bitrate of both primary and backup streams when checking upload headroom.

6. Reset a stream key only for a key or encoder error
A stream key is the credential/configuration value the encoder uses to send a feed to YouTube. YouTube’s reset guidance applies to an encoder start error or a key problem—not to a broadband public-IP change by itself. If Live Control Room or the encoder reports a key/start error, follow YouTube’s stream-key troubleshooting guidance, then update the encoder with the replacement key. Otherwise, investigate connectivity separately. A listener cannot repair the broadcaster’s encoder-to-YouTube connection. Test whether the same radio stream plays on another device or another internet connection, and check whether other YouTube videos and unrelated services stall too.

- If playback fails only on one device connected over Wi-Fi, check router range and interference, and reduce competing network use.
- If multiple devices lose playback when the broadband connection changes, record the timing and contact the ISP.
- If other videos play normally but one radio stream does not, the issue may be at the broadcaster’s end; share the time and symptoms with the channel operator.

What not to change without evidence
- Do not replace the stream key just because the IP changed. YouTube documents resetting a key for key or encoder-start errors, not as a general network-reconnection fix.
- Do not assume a static IP, dynamic DNS, VPN, or new router will preserve the live session. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee that these changes prevent an ingest interruption during an ISP reconnect.
- Do not assume Ethernet fixes an upstream outage. It can separate Wi-Fi trouble from broadband trouble, but cannot keep the ISP connection alive if it drops.
