Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteClean live-stream graphics keep useful labels and framing visible without competing with the gameplay, presentation, or camera. To make them, decide what information viewers need, design for your OBS canvas and output size, export with the right transparency format, then position and check each layer in OBS Studio.
Plan what the graphic needs to do
Start with the stream content, not a template. Choose only elements that serve the viewer, such as a webcam frame, a short name or social handle, or an intermission message. Keep the main gameplay, presentation, or camera area open. There is no universal official rule for type size, contrast, or how much of the screen an overlay should cover, so judge legibility in your own composition.
Design for the OBS canvas and stream output
Before placing graphics, check OBS Studio’s Base (Canvas) Resolution and Output (Scaled) Resolution. The canvas is the area where sources are fitted together; the output resolution is the size used for the stream or recording. If OBS scales the output, inspect text and fine lines at that delivered size, not just while zoomed in on the design.
No single overlay pixel dimension suits every layout. Match the graphic to your actual canvas and verify it in OBS. For webcam frames and bars, choose a shape suited to the feed: Elgato lists 16:9, 4:3, 9:16, and 1:1 as common webcam overlay proportions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose an export format that handles transparency
- Static overlay with transparent areas: Export as PNG. Elgato specifies PNG for static transparent overlays.
- Animated overlay that must reveal video beneath it: Elgato recommends WEBM for animated transparency.
- Canva export: Canva’s overlay page offers PNG and MP4. Do not assume an MP4 has transparency because it is offered for an overlay; check the behavior of the specific export workflow.
Transparency matters whenever the underlying webcam or video needs to remain visible through the graphic. Elgato describes it as “Essential to ensure the webcam feed is visible beneath the overlay.”
Build and position the graphic in OBS Studio
- Create or select a scene. In the Scenes panel, make a scene for the layout you want, such as gameplay with a webcam frame or an intermission screen.
- Add the required sources. Use an image source for a saved graphic, a text source for simple labels, a browser source for a web-rendered overlay or widget, and a capture source for the game or video. OBS scenes can combine these source types.
- Set the layer order. In the Sources list, higher sources appear in front of lower ones. Put the background beneath the content that should show over it, and keep frames or labels above the feed they decorate.
- Place and size each source. Move and resize elements in the preview. For more precise placement, use source transforms. Crop where needed so excess parts of a source do not occupy the scene.
- Check the full composition. Confirm that transparent areas reveal the intended video, the layer order is correct, and labels remain readable at output size.
Example: a “Be Right Back” scene
A straightforward intermission layout can use a background image, a separate image with transparent text, and a game capture source. Arrange the sources so each intended foreground element remains visible. OBS’s official tutorial demonstrates this layered approach.

Review the scene before using it live
Look at the entire composition in OBS at the intended output size. Check for covered gameplay or camera details, unexpected opaque areas, incorrect stacking, and text or lines that become hard to see after scaling. OBS Studio’s Studio Mode lets you view the live scene separately from the scene being edited; a test recording is another way to inspect the output before using the layout.
Choose the right kind of overlay workflow
| Choice | What differs | Practical guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Static or animated | Whether the asset moves and needs transparency | Use PNG for static transparency; Elgato recommends WEBM for animated transparency. |
| Canvas or output size | Working layout area versus delivered stream or recording size | Set and review both OBS resolution settings, especially when output is scaled. |
| Image or browser source | Fixed local artwork versus web-rendered content | Use an image for a prepared asset; OBS browser sources can display web content such as alerts or chat boxes. |
| Design software or control hardware | Creating graphics versus operating prepared scenes | Canva provides an overlay design page. A Stream Deck can select OBS scenes or toggle source visibility; it is a control device, not a graphics editor. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate option from making graphics: it keeps a prerecorded stream running from the cloud, not from a camera. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
