Yes, YouTube supports continuous 24/7 live streams, but YouTube Studio does not create or send the video feed by itself. Studio’s Live Control Room manages the event; an encoder or streaming service must keep sending video and audio to YouTube. That encoder can run on a computer, dedicated hardware, or in the cloud.
What YouTube Studio does—and what it does not do
YouTube Studio is the control point for setting up and managing a live event. The actual feed comes from an encoder: you select or create a stream in the Live Control Room, give the encoder YouTube’s stream URL and stream key, then start the encoder. When YouTube receives the feed, the stream goes live and its watch page is created. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and directory describe this workflow and list software, hardware, and cloud options.
So, a channel can remain live around the clock if the feed source and encoder or service continue running. Studio alone is not a video source, and YouTube does not guarantee that a third-party encoder or service will stay online without interruption.
What you need before starting a continuous stream
- An eligible channel: YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours.
- A feed and encoder: Choose a source that can supply the content you intend to broadcast and an encoder that can send it continuously. A local computer, dedicated hardware encoder, or cloud service can fill this role.
- A stream key: The key is a credential that lets an encoder send to your YouTube stream. Treat it like a password; do not share it publicly.
- A monitoring and recovery plan: Check stream health and confirm what happens if the feed, internet connection, or encoder stops. A provider’s listing in YouTube’s directory is not a promise of uninterrupted uptime.
- An archive plan: Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a 24-hour-plus broadcast in full. Keep a separate recording if the complete program matters.
Set up a 24/7 YouTube stream
- Confirm eligibility and enable live streaming. Sign in to the channel, verify it if needed, and enable live streaming. For a first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting to go live.
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then create a stream or select an existing one.
- Choose the encoder and content source. Use software, hardware, or a cloud service suited to the material. For prerecorded video, confirm that the encoder or service supports playing the files or playlist you want to broadcast.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and key into the encoder. Use the fields requested by that encoder, keep the key private, and check that the correct stream is selected.
- Start sending the feed and check the result. Start the encoder, then use the Live Control Room to confirm that YouTube receives the video and audio and to monitor stream health. YouTube recommends checking audio and video quality and verifying local archive files during setup.
- Test interruption and recording behavior before relying on it. Determine how you will notice a stopped feed, restart it, or recover from a dropped YouTube connection. Make and verify a separate recording if you need a complete archive.

Plan for YouTube’s limits and archive behavior
Concurrent live streams
YouTube’s Help page says a channel can have up to 10 active streams at once, with up to 3 active streams per stream key. These are operational limits, not a promise that any particular encoder can manage that number of feeds.
Streams longer than 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete recording of a continuous broadcast, record a separate copy and verify that the file is being saved.

Content rights and channel rules
Use only material you have the right to broadcast, including music, video, and any third-party material in a playlist. A continuous schedule does not change the need to follow YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-streaming rules. Check that the channel remains eligible and that the stream’s content and presentation comply with YouTube’s policies before leaving it unattended.
