For example, Restream’s documented workflow lets you select or upload a video, set event details and a start time, choose YouTube, and create the event; Restream says the video airs automatically even when you are offline. A scheduled event created in YouTube Studio is different: it needs an incoming encoder feed, and the operator must click Go live after the preview appears.
What you need before scheduling
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. Restream’s help page says first-time YouTube livestreaming requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait; check YouTube’s current eligibility rules and instructions before relying on that timing.
- A cloud service that specifically offers prerecorded livestream events or upload-and-stream playback, not just scheduled YouTube event creation.
- A final video file, plus the public-facing title, description, thumbnail, and intended start time.
Connect the channel through the service’s YouTube authorization flow. Restream documents connecting by authorizing the YouTube account. Confirm that YouTube is selected as the destination before creating the event.
Schedule a prerecorded YouTube livestream in the cloud
- Create a prerecorded event. In the cloud service, choose its prerecorded livestream or equivalent upload-and-stream option. Restream’s documented workflow calls this Pre-recorded livestream.
- Select the video. Choose a video already in the service or upload the file. Check the service’s current file-size, storage, resolution, and plan limits before uploading; these terms vary by provider and may change.
- Enter event details. Add the title, description, date, and start time. Check the timezone displayed in the service and compare it with the time you intend viewers to see. Restream documents the schedule fields, but timezone handling should be verified in its interface.
- Set up the YouTube event. Select the connected YouTube channel. If available and useful, enable an advance event post and add a thumbnail. Restream documents these options and lists YouTube as supporting event posts in advance.
- Review before creating. Verify the destination, selected file, title, description, thumbnail, and start time on the event card. Save the event link and include it in your promotion plan. Restream says scheduled events can be added to a calendar.
- Monitor the event. Restream says its prerecorded events start automatically at the scheduled time, without a manual start, and its stream view can be used to monitor playback and chat.
If you unschedule an event, check the associated YouTube event post separately. Restream says related social posts are not removed automatically, so remove or correct any stale post.
Check the video and stream before the start time
Inspect the uploaded file
- Confirm that the opening and ending are intentional and the audio is present and balanced.
- Check the aspect ratio, thumbnail, title, and description in the event preview.
- Allow enough time for upload and review before the scheduled start; check the provider’s current upload and storage limits.
Test the stream path
YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health during a live event. Its encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for ordinary content because it encrypts the connection to Google’s servers. The appropriate resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings depend on the source and the chosen service; there is no single setting that is right for every prerecorded workflow. Follow the service’s current requirements rather than assuming that YouTube’s encoder settings apply unchanged to a hosted file upload.

Choose the hosted workflow when you need the file to begin automatically at the scheduled time. Choose YouTube’s native scheduled-stream route when you want direct encoder control and can have someone start the feed and confirm the event at the scheduled time.
Schedule through YouTube Studio with an encoder
YouTube’s native route schedules the event page, not delivery of a stored video file. You can use a prerecorded file as the encoder’s source, but the encoder must send the feed and an operator must take the stream live.

- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings, then set the event details.
- In your encoder, configure YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the channel.
- At the scheduled time, start the encoder feed using the prerecorded file as its source.
- Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check the incoming feed, then click Go live.
- When the video is finished, stop the encoder feed and end the stream.
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check YouTube Help for the current interface and operating requirements because screens and instructions can change.

The event does not start automatically
Check that you created a prerecorded livestream event, not only a scheduled YouTube broadcast page. YouTube’s native scheduled workflow expects an encoder feed and a manual Go live confirmation.
The event is scheduled for the wrong time
Compare the time shown in the service with the intended audience timezone before creating the event. If you change or cancel it, check the YouTube event post as well; it may not be removed automatically.

YouTube is unavailable as a destination
Confirm that livestreaming is enabled for the channel and reconnect it through the provider’s authorization flow. If the channel is new to livestreaming, check YouTube’s current verification and waiting requirements.
The event appears but viewers see no video
For a hosted event, verify the uploaded file is selected and that the provider reports the event as active. For a native encoder event, confirm the server URL and stream key, start the feed, and wait for the preview before clicking Go live.
Playback quality or stream health is poor
Test the complete path before the event with representative audio and motion. Check the provider’s current file and delivery requirements or YouTube’s encoder guidance, and monitor stream health. For encoder delivery, YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary content.
The upload or plan does not support the file
Check the provider’s current file-size, storage, resolution, and plan limits before retrying. Restream’s help material says limits depend on add-on tier and that free-tier event thumbnails carry Restream branding; confirm current terms in the service before purchase or setup.

Scheduling a video does not grant rights to its music, footage, or other material. Use content you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright rules and channel policies before broadcasting. A prerecorded file can also be subject to YouTube’s policies on reused content and monetization; an event being live does not change those rules. Avoid assuming that a successful upload guarantees the video will remain available or eligible for monetization.
