To keep a church’s daily prayers available on YouTube around the clock, send a live audio-and-video feed to YouTube Live using an encoder, then monitor the stream and plan for restarts. First decide whether the source is a live prayer leader, prerecorded prayers, or a mix. Check channel eligibility, test the actual program and connection before launch, and clear rights to all music and third-party material. If you want YouTube replays, make the broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and keep local recordings: YouTube warns that a longer stream may not be captured at all.
Choose what the 24/7 prayer stream will show
The production you need depends on whether people will lead prayers live, recordings will play on a loop, or the channel will combine both. A simple audio program with a static image may not need a camera; a live leader may need a camera and a reliable microphone or church sound-system feed. Be clear with viewers when a program is prerecorded rather than live.
- Live prayers: plan who leads them, how audio reaches the encoder, and who can check the stream outside staffed hours.
- Prerecorded prayers: use an encoder or playback setup that can loop or restart the files, and verify how it behaves after an application, power, or network failure.
- Mixed programming: test handoffs between live and recorded segments, including audio levels and any scheduled restarts.
- Static or lightly animated visual: prioritize clear, steady audio; more image detail is unlikely to matter as much as reliable transmission.
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders, but the platform’s setup guidance does not establish that any particular encoder guarantees unattended recovery or uninterrupted service. Choose based on the church’s existing equipment, technical support, and maintenance coverage.

Prepare the channel well before the intended start. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. - Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream. Set its title, description, and privacy, and choose the appropriate stream configuration.
- Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Follow the encoder’s instructions for the exact fields.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to the channel; reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder and check that the Live Control Room preview and stream-health status show an incoming feed.
YouTube’s guidance states a channel can have up to 10 active streams and a stream key can be used by up to 3 streams. Those limits are relevant if the church plans multiple simultaneous feeds; they do not remove the need to configure and test each broadcast.
Set encoder video, audio, and network settings
Use YouTube’s current recommended settings as a starting point, then confirm that the church’s actual upload connection can sustain them. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection. For RTMP/RTMPS, its listed video codecs are H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; AAC or MP3 are listed audio options. H.264 is a broadly supported starting choice.

For a mostly static prayer scene, 4K is rarely necessary. Select a resolution and bitrate the connection can sustain with headroom rather than targeting maximum detail. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists current recommendations; settings and encoder controls can vary by product.

Test the real program before going public
- Start a private or unlisted test broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Use the actual microphone or mixer feed, prayer recordings, and visual movement expected during the service. Include music only after rights have been cleared.
- Check that the preview appears at the expected resolution and that speech is audible, not distorted, clipped, or silent.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and confirm the feed remains stable over a meaningful test period.
- Repeat the test at the location and time the stream will normally run, if possible, since the network conditions matter.
If you use OBS, its help guidance identifies an increasing dropped-frames counter and a yellow or red connection indicator as signs of an unstable connection or a bitrate the network cannot sustain. Plan stream restarts and replay archives
A single broadcast that runs indefinitely is a poor choice if the church needs dependable daily replay links. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It also recommends a local recording as a backup. Its archive guidance is at Archive live streams.
For daily archives, schedule controlled broadcasts shorter than 12 hours—for example, one or more segments per day—and record locally. Decide who starts the next segment and how viewers will find it. Test the exact encoder and scheduled or unattended workflow: YouTube’s guidance does not promise a seamless handoff or guarantee that a particular encoder will restart automatically. On very long streams, viewer DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable.

Clear music and other content rights before launch
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can lead to a warning, a placeholder image replacing the broadcast, interruption, or termination. This can include material used during a live service or in a recording, such as hymn recordings, backing tracks, video clips, and other people’s broadcasts.

Keep the stream monitored and assign recovery responsibility
Assign someone to check Live Control Room health messages, particularly during the first days of operation. Decide who is responsible when the stream stops outside normal church hours and what they can do: restart the encoder, switch to backup internet, or restore the source program. These are site-specific resilience decisions; YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted service or prescribe a universal recovery setup.
- Keep the stream key accessible only to people who need it, and reset it if exposed.
- Keep a local recording if replay availability matters.
- Test the loop, scheduled restart, and recovery process rather than assuming they work unattended.
- Write down who can respond and how to contact them if the stream fails.
