To show a pop-up when someone sends a YouTube Super Chat, configure a YouTube Super Chat alert in Streamlabs, then add its Alert Box URL to OBS as a Browser Source. Test the alert in OBS before relying on it live. OBS does not provide alerts itself; the overlay comes from a third-party service.
Before you add the alert
Confirm that your channel and stream can use YouTube Live Chat and Super Chat. Super Chat is a paid, highlighted and pinned message feature for eligible live streams and Premieres. YouTube restrictions or audience settings can disable it, regardless of whether OBS is configured correctly.
- Your channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to stream.
- Check that the stream is not marked Made for Kids. YouTube lists live chat and Super Chat among features disabled for content with that audience setting.
- Confirm that live chat and monetization features are enabled where applicable in YouTube Studio.

Set up a Super Chat alert in Streamlabs and OBS
- Configure the alert in Streamlabs. Open the Streamlabs dashboard, choose YouTube for the platform, and configure the Super Chat alert in the Alert Box. Set its appearance, animation or image, sound, font, and duration to suit your layout. Streamlabs provides dashboard controls for testing alerts. Its alert setup instructions describe the available configuration.
- Copy the Alert Box URL. Copy the widget URL provided for the Alert Box. Depending on the service, it may be called an Overlay URL, Widget URL, or Alert URL.
- Add it to the intended OBS scene. In OBS, select the scene where the notification should appear. In the Sources panel, click +, choose Browser, create a source, and paste the URL into the URL field. Set the width and height to fit your stream canvas, then confirm. Resize or reposition the source in the preview as needed.
- Repeat for other scenes. A Browser Source belongs to the scene where you add it. Add the source to each scene in which you want alerts. Streamlabs’ plugin can add widgets through OBS’s interface, but it is optional; the Browser Source method does not require it.
- Test the presentation. Trigger a test Super Chat alert from the Streamlabs dashboard or its supported test controls. Check the OBS preview for placement, scale, readability, animation, and sound. A successful test confirms the display path at that moment; it does not guarantee future connectivity or delivery.
OBS’s instructions for Browser Sources explain how to embed third-party overlays. Its documentation notes that “OBS Studio does not directly provide stream alerts.”

Choose the right display: alert or chat box
An Alert Box is for an event notification: a pop-up when a Super Chat arrives. It is not a promise that every message will remain visible indefinitely. If you want viewers to see chat continuously, add a separate chat box or chat overlay and decide how much screen space and message history to display. OBS distinguishes event notifications (“Alerts”) from stream chat (“Chat Box”).
YouTube’s live chat instructions concern the watch page. Its guidance for embedding live chat uses an iframe and a matching embed domain, so do not treat a YouTube chat embed as a plug-and-play OBS alert URL. The Streamlabs Alert Box is the documented route here for Super Chat pop-ups.

Plan for a 24/7 stream and its archive
A nonstop stream has an important replay limitation. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay. If a full archive matters, record a local backup and verify your recording setup. Troubleshoot a missing or broken Super Chat alert
- No alert appears in OBS: Trigger a provider test. If it does not appear, check the pasted widget URL and that the Browser Source is in the active scene. Confirm the provider is configured for YouTube and that the Super Chat alert is enabled.
- The alert works in one scene only: Add the Browser Source to each other scene where it should appear, or use an OBS arrangement that includes the source across those scenes.
- The alert is cut off, too small, or hard to read: Adjust the Browser Source dimensions and its size and position in the OBS preview. Review the alert’s font, layout, animation, and duration in Streamlabs.
- The test works but real Super Chats do not appear: Check YouTube channel and stream eligibility, the audience setting, live chat availability, and the provider’s YouTube configuration. A test verifies the visual setup, not that YouTube will permit monetization features or that future provider delivery will succeed.
- Chat is visible but the alert is not: A chat box and an Alert Box serve different purposes. Check that the Super Chat event is enabled in the Alert Box rather than relying on the chat display.
