Yes, a channel with no uploaded videos is not barred by any prior-upload requirement in YouTube’s published general live-stream eligibility checklist. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; the streamer must also be at least 16. The mobile-app route has additional requirements, including at least 50 subscribers. Meeting the published checklist does not guarantee that every individual account will be enabled immediately.
Can I livestream on YouTube with no videos?
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance does not list previously uploaded videos as a requirement. It says a channel needs verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. So an empty upload page, by itself, is not a stated reason you cannot go live. YouTube does not explicitly guarantee that every new or individual channel with no videos will be eligible, however; account-specific checks may still affect access. See YouTube’s Get started with live streaming guidance.
What YouTube requires
For live streaming generally
- Verified channel: YouTube requires channel verification.
- No recent live-stream restrictions: You must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Age 16 or older: YouTube states that streamers must be at least 16 to live stream.
These baseline requirements apply whether you use a computer, webcam, encoder, or another supported method. The general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum for all live streams.

- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled on the channel.
- Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
After you enable live streaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours. A channel with no videos can still meet the mobile requirements, but an empty channel with fewer than 50 subscribers cannot use the mobile-app route under the published rule.
Can I go live with zero subscribers?
The 50-subscriber threshold described by YouTube applies to live streaming through the mobile app, not to every streaming method in the general eligibility checklist. YouTube’s general guidance does not state a subscriber minimum for computer-based streaming. Whichever route you use, the channel verification and recent-restriction requirements still matter.

For mobile channels with at least 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience for a mobile livestream, and its archive defaults to private. After a channel passes 1,000 subscribers, removal of the mobile audience limitation may take several weeks. If a channel falls below 50 subscribers, it loses access to mobile live streaming.

How to check before your first stream
- Choose your streaming method. Decide whether you intend to use the YouTube mobile app or stream from a computer using a webcam or encoder. YouTube describes these as different ways to go live; buying equipment does not change the account eligibility rules. Its YouTube live streaming tips say expensive equipment is not necessary.
- Verify the channel. Make sure channel verification is complete. YouTube lists verification as a baseline requirement.
- Check the channel’s live-stream access. In YouTube Studio, look for the live-stream controls and whether live streaming is enabled. Also check for any live-stream restrictions from the previous 90 days.
- If using the mobile app, check the extra criteria. Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers and that the phone or tablet meets YouTube’s stated operating-system requirement.
- Allow for first-time activation. If mobile live streaming was just enabled, wait up to 24 hours before concluding that access is unavailable.
- Follow YouTube’s rules while streaming. Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube also says streams featuring 13–15-year-olds without a visibly accompanying adult may have live chat disabled, and access to live chat or other features may be temporarily limited.
Why can’t I go live on YouTube?
If your channel has no videos and live streaming is unavailable, uploading a video is not a fix established by YouTube’s published eligibility pages. Check the method you are trying to use and then work through the relevant criteria:

- You appear to meet the published criteria but still cannot start: Review the live-stream controls in YouTube Studio and consult YouTube’s official Help or support channels. The published guidance does not establish a guaranteed account-specific remedy.
Or let it run in the cloud
Eligibility is still controlled by YouTube: StreamNeo does not remove account requirements or enable an ineligible channel. If your goal is to keep an uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream after your channel is able to go live, StreamNeo lets you upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. The cloud keeps it running without a computer or home internet connection staying on; video streams as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
