For a standard SDR YouTube Live stream at 4K/60 fps, use OBS’s Intel Quick Sync (QSV) encoder if your hardware offers it, set rate control to CBR and keyframe interval to 2 seconds, then choose the bitrate for your ingest codec: YouTube recommends 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for H.265/HEVC and AV1. Those are YouTube’s platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Intel system or internet connection can sustain 4K/60. Test the complete setup before relying on it.

Recommended OBS settings for 4K 60fps YouTube Live

These settings are for an SDR stream. Use them only if the source, Intel encoder, and stable upload connection can handle 3840×2160 at 60 fps. QSV availability and codec support depend on the graphics generation, driver, OBS version, and encoder options shown on your machine.

Setting Recommended value What to check
Encoder Intel Quick Sync (QSV), if available Choose a codec the specific QSV encoder on your system supports.
Output resolution and frame rate 3840×2160 at 60 fps Use this only when the source, encoder, and upload path can sustain it.
Rate control CBR YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
Bitrate, H.264 50 Mbps recommended; 14 Mbps minimum YouTube’s 4K/2160p60 H.264 figures. A lower rate may reduce quality; do not assume it will maintain the target under difficult network conditions.
Bitrate, H.265/HEVC or AV1 35 Mbps recommended; 10 Mbps minimum YouTube’s 4K/2160p60 figures. Confirm that your QSV encoder offers the selected codec.
Protocol RTMPS YouTube recommends RTMPS for the normal live-stream path.
Latency Normal latency at 4K YouTube’s low-latency optimization option is unavailable for 4K/2160p.

The bitrate figures are from YouTube Help’s encoder settings page, accessed October 3, 2026. They describe YouTube’s recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate; they do not establish what every Intel generation can encode or what a connection can reliably upload.

Set up QSV in OBS

  1. Update and check availability. Update OBS and the Intel graphics driver, then open Settings → Output → Streaming → Encoder. Select the Intel Quick Sync option only if it appears and supports the codec and output you intend to use. If you have a primary NVIDIA or AMD graphics card, OBS generally recommends using NVENC or AMF instead; the best choice still depends on your machine and workload.
  2. Set the stream output. Configure 3840×2160 and 60 fps only if your source and system can encode it without overload. YouTube Live Control Room normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you need to select them manually, YouTube says to use a custom stream key with manual settings enabled.
  3. Apply the streaming values. In OBS’s streaming output settings, set rate control to CBR, keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and the codec-specific bitrate from the table. Use the QSV codec option that matches those values; encoder menus and available formats can vary by hardware and software.
  4. Connect to YouTube with RTMPS. Use the YouTube stream configuration and key for the intended broadcast. Treat the key as a credential: do not reveal it in a screenshot or share it publicly.
  5. Test the whole path. Before the real event, run a private or unlisted test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended resolution and frame rate, check stream health and review messages in Live Control Room, and watch OBS for encoder overload or dropped frames. If the setup cannot sustain the target, lower bitrate, resolution, or frame rate rather than trusting the nominal setting.

What bitrate for YouTube 4K 60fps?

Choose by ingest codec, not just resolution. YouTube’s current live encoder table lists 50 Mbps as the recommended bitrate for H.264 at 4K/2160p60, compared with 35 Mbps for H.265/HEVC or AV1. The corresponding minimums are 14 Mbps and 10 Mbps. These are platform figures, not a universal upload-speed requirement or a promise of equivalent visual quality across codecs and encoders.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Measure your upload connection under realistic conditions and leave practical headroom for variation. Intel’s streaming guidance advises matching resolution and frame rate to available connection speed. If the upload fluctuates around the selected stream bitrate, a lower bitrate or output target is a safer choice than a fragile 4K/60 configuration.

Should you use H.264, HEVC, or AV1?

  • H.264: YouTube recommends 50 Mbps for 4K/2160p60. It may be the practical option when your QSV encoder supports H.264 but not the alternatives; confirm the actual OBS encoder menu.
  • H.265/HEVC: YouTube recommends 35 Mbps at 4K/2160p60. Support depends on the Intel graphics generation and software path, so do not assume every QSV system can use it.
  • AV1: YouTube also recommends 35 Mbps at 4K/2160p60. Use it only if OBS exposes a compatible Intel encoder on your system and the full live path works in a test.

YouTube’s recommended bitrates do not by themselves establish which codec will look best on your particular hardware. OBS notes that older hardware encoders can deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate. If the available QSV generation produces unsatisfactory results, test another suitable encoder or reduce the output target.

Why is Quick Sync missing in OBS?

OBS documents QSV for Windows and Linux and lists Intel HD Graphics on Core-i 2xxx (Sandy Bridge) or newer as its compatibility floor. It recommends Core-i 4xxx (Haswell) or newer because early QSV generations had lower image quality. These generation references are not a guarantee of 4K/60 performance or support for every codec.

  • No Intel graphics or unsupported hardware: Check the machine’s graphics model and OBS’s encoder list. Intel’s guide says QSV is not available if it does not appear in OBS’s encoder menu.
  • Out-of-date software: Update OBS and the graphics driver, restart OBS, then check the encoder menu again.
  • A different GPU is the better fit: If the system has NVIDIA or AMD graphics, OBS generally recommends NVENC or AMF. Compare the options available on the actual machine rather than assuming QSV must be used.

SDR settings are not HDR settings

The settings above are for SDR. YouTube HDR live streaming requires compatible HDR content and hardware and currently uses HEVC/H.265. YouTube’s OBS setup describes a hardware HEVC encoder, Main 10 profile, P010 color format, HDR enabled, and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG color space; YouTube recommends HLG. Do not apply this configuration unless the source, encoder, and output path support HDR end to end.

YouTube lists Intel 10th Generation graphics or later for compatibility with Mirillis Action!, a specific software product. That statement should not be treated as proof that every OBS/QSV configuration on those or earlier Intel graphics supports HDR streaming.

Troubleshoot an unstable or poor-quality 4K60 stream

Symptom Likely issue What to do
QSV is absent from the OBS encoder menu Unsupported or unavailable Intel graphics/driver path Check the hardware model, update the driver and OBS, restart, and inspect the encoder menu again. Use another supported encoder if QSV remains unavailable.
OBS reports encoder overload The encoder cannot keep up with the selected output or workload Try a lower resolution or frame rate and test again. Do not assume the broad QSV compatibility floor means the machine can encode 4K/60.
YouTube reports unstable stream health or frames drop Upload capacity or network stability is insufficient for the stream Measure upload speed, leave headroom, and lower the bitrate or output target if needed. Run another representative test.
Picture quality is poor despite meeting the bitrate figure Codec, encoder generation, or source quality may be limiting Verify the intended codec is actually active. Test another supported encoder or reduce the output target; older hardware encoders can have lower quality at the same bitrate.
YouTube receives a different resolution or frame rate Automatic detection or stream-key configuration differs from the intended output Check OBS output and YouTube Live Control Room. For manual selection, YouTube specifies a custom stream key with manual settings enabled.
