Can StreamYard stream 24/7 on YouTube?
StreamYard’s documented strengths are live production features: browser-based setup, supported YouTube destinations, scheduled broadcasts, and prerecorded shows. The reviewed official material does not establish it as a managed service that guarantees continuous, unattended 24/7 playback. Choose it when producing a show—with guests, layouts, or comments—is the priority, and verify the exact workflow for your broadcast.
What its connection requires
StreamYard recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download, and recommends Ethernet when possible. For desktop use it lists 4 GB RAM minimum and 6–8 GB recommended. Is OBS good for 24/7 YouTube streaming?
OBS is a capable choice for local production when you want control over scenes and encoding. YouTube includes OBS in its verified software-encoder list, but that does not mean a computer running OBS is a managed 24/7 playout system. The OBS Project says compatibility alone does not guarantee streaming or recording capability; demands vary with encoder, resolution, FPS, and scene complexity. Its system requirements page is dated 2021-08-25, so check the current requirements for your operating system and setup at OBS System Requirements.

What must stay available
With a desktop encoder workflow, the streaming computer, power, network connection, and configured broadcast all matter. Plan how you will monitor the stream, respond to a failed connection, and restart the encoder or broadcast. The cited OBS and YouTube documentation establishes encoder setup and system considerations; it does not prescribe a complete 24/7 failover design or provide comparative uptime figures.
How do I keep a YouTube live stream running all day?
First decide whether you are producing a live show or continuously playing prerecorded material. For either workflow, YouTube’s encoder steps are to connect the encoder using the stream URL and stream key, then start the encoder. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel. YouTube’s first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so allow for that before a planned launch. Follow the current YouTube encoder instructions for the interface and controls.

Operational checks for a long session
- Power: Decide what happens if the computer or encoder loses power, and how you will restore the broadcast.
- Internet: Use a stable connection and consider Ethernet for a computer that must remain connected. Wired networking can reduce one source of connection trouble; it cannot ensure uptime.
- Encoding load: Confirm that the machine can sustain the chosen resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scenes rather than relying on compatibility alone.
- Monitoring and recovery: Arrange a way to notice a dropped broadcast and restart it. Do not assume a production feature is an automatic recovery system.
- Key security: Treat the stream key as a password, restrict access, and reset it if exposed.
- Copyright and channel policies: Use material you have the rights to stream and check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules. Continuous playback does not exempt a channel from those rules.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If an archived replay matters, plan sessions below that threshold and confirm the current live control settings. The cited guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams longer than 12 hours; that is not the same as saying longer streams are never saved. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Which should you choose?
- Choose StreamYard when browser-based production, guest handling, branded layouts, or audience comments are central to the show.
- Choose OBS when you want local control of scenes and encoding and can operate the computer and connection for the session.
