To play a podcast archive from the first episode, set the podcast’s default video order to oldest-to-newest in YouTube Studio. For a regular playlist, edit the playlist and drag episodes into order. First decide whether the show is serial, where chronology matters, or episodic, where listeners can usually start anywhere.
Choose the right order for the show
YouTube distinguishes serial shows, meant to be followed in sequence, from non-serial or episodic shows, whose episodes can be watched in any order. For a serial podcast—such as a story or course in which later episodes depend on earlier ones—oldest-to-newest puts the first episode first. For standalone episodes, newest-to-oldest is generally useful for discovery because it surfaces recent releases.
YouTube’s podcast guidance describes serial shows as oldest-to-newest and episodic shows as newest-to-oldest. Choose based on how a listener should follow the archive, not simply on which episodes are newest.
Set the order for a YouTube podcast
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Podcasts.
- Select the podcast and open its editing details.
- Find Default Video Order and select the oldest-to-newest option for a serial archive.
- Save the change, then check the podcast playlist as a viewer to confirm the first episode appears first.
YouTube may change Studio controls or labels. Its Help article Create a podcast in YouTube Studio is the official reference for the podcast-order control.

Reorder an ordinary playlist
If the archive is a regular playlist rather than a podcast, reorder the videos directly. In YouTube Studio, open the playlist and drag videos into the desired sequence. You can also open the playlist page and drag videos there when the editing control is available. Put the oldest episode at the top for a first-to-last listening path, then verify the sequence on the playlist page.
YouTube’s Manage playlists in YouTube Studio Help guidance covers playlist editing. Podcast default order and manual playlist order are different controls: use the podcast setting for a YouTube podcast, and manual reordering for a regular playlist.

When episodes came from an RSS feed
For RSS-delivered episodes, YouTube uses the episode release date from the feed to determine playlist order when that date is available. If it is not available, YouTube falls back to the YouTube publish date. YouTube says it does not verify the RSS release date, so incorrect dates in the feed can produce an order that does not match the intended chronology.
The channel’s Videos tab is sorted by YouTube upload date, not necessarily by the podcast playlist’s RSS release-date order. As a result, the podcast can be correctly arranged oldest-to-newest while the Videos tab appears different. The date shown to viewers can also vary by YouTube surface. For RSS delivery details, see YouTube Help’s Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed.

If you mean a continuous live rebroadcast
Organizing a podcast playlist is not the same as rebroadcasting its episodes as a live stream. Playlist ordering controls do not create a continuous live broadcast. If you choose to stream an archive live, plan separately for the playback and for keeping a copy of the resulting live-stream archive.
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording as a backup rather than relying on YouTube to retain a long broadcast. See YouTube Help’s Archive live streams guidance.
