Brooks Koepka was reported to have put a TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini Driver in his bag at the 2026 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, replacing his long-used TaylorMade M2 Tour fairway wood. The switch was reported by GOLF.com and corroborated by Golf Digest. Neither Koepka’s reason nor whether the change will last has been confirmed.
What club did Koepka change?
The incoming club was identified as a TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini Driver; the club it displaced was Koepka’s TaylorMade M2 Tour fairway wood. The sources differ on how they describe the M2: GOLF.com calls it a 4-wood, while Golf Digest calls it a 3-wood. “M2 Tour fairway wood” avoids treating either loft label as settled.
The change drew attention because GOLF.com reported the M2 had been in Koepka’s bag for all five of his major championships. That long run makes the reported substitution notable, but it does not establish that he has made a lasting overhaul.
Is the R7 Quad Mini Driver a permanent switch?
That is not established. GOLF.com described the move as potentially temporary and dependent on the course. The report said Koepka had not commented on the change, and Golf Digest likewise noted the absence of a comment. There is no confirmed explanation from Koepka or confirmation that the R7 will remain in his bag.

- The Strata 12-Piece Men's is designed to give you maximum performance right out of the box for more confidence from tee-to-green. The lightweight 460cc forged driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons and putter make up a set that provides a great combination of distance, forgiveness and control, and is very easy to hit.
GOLF.com quoted Koepka speaking at Torrey Pines in January 2026, months before the Dunhill event: “I haven’t really tested anything,” he said. “I’m not a tinkerer. If something works, something works and I don’t really switch up. I like everything that I’ve got in the bag. I feel like I have a good understanding of the control, where the misses are.” The earlier remarks provide context for why an equipment change stood out; they are not a comment about the R7 Quad.
Why might a mini driver suit links golf?
GOLF.com’s report points to the demands of links golf as relevant context, not as Koepka’s stated motive. Firm turf can let tee shots run farther, while fairway pot bunkers can make placement consequential. Those conditions can make the balance between distance and control worth considering from the tee.

A mini driver and a fairway wood can serve overlapping but not identical roles. In general, a player or fitter might weigh:
- Tee use versus turf use: how often the club is intended for tee shots and whether it must also work from the fairway.
- Head size and forgiveness: the fit between a larger head and the player’s preferred look, strike pattern, and miss management.
- Flight adjustments: whether launch, spin, or shot-shape settings help produce a useful trajectory for the course.
- Course conditions: how firm ground and hazards affect the preferred combination of carry, rollout, and placement.
The reporting supplies no measured head-to-head test of Koepka’s M2 and R7, so it cannot show that one club is categorically better or that the R7 produced a particular performance benefit for him.

What is known about the R7 Quad’s adjustable weights?
GOLF.com describes the R7 Quad Mini Driver as having four adjustable weights for influencing spin and shot shape. The product description reproduced in its coverage says forward weighting prioritizes a penetrating flight and distance, while rear weighting prioritizes control and use from the turf. These are product-feature claims, not independent performance-test results, and the report does not identify Koepka’s weight settings.
