Sri Lanka Cricket left Charith Asalanka out of its 15-player squad for the three-match T20I series against Pakistan, announced on 2 October 2026. Kusal Mendis will captain the side. The matches are scheduled for 9, 11 and 13 October in Rawalpindi.
Why was Charith Asalanka left out?
Sri Lanka Cricket’s squad announcement does not state why Asalanka was omitted, and no reason from a selector is established in the available reports. It would therefore be speculation to describe the decision as an injury, loss of form, rest or disciplinary action.
There is recent context, but it does not explain the selection: an AFP report says Asalanka captained Sri Lanka in the T20I series against England, which England won 3-0. Who will captain Sri Lanka against Pakistan?
