NordVPN is a credible choice for everyday VPN use, but it is not a guarantee of anonymity, access through restrictive firewalls, or the lowest long-term cost. Its case rests on repeated independent reviews of its no-logs claim, familiar protocol options, and broad reported country coverage. Whether it is worth paying for depends on your privacy expectations, devices, location, and the total cost of the plan you choose.
Is NordVPN good?
For general-purpose use—such as adding protection on public Wi-Fi, changing the IP address that many websites see, and routing traffic through a VPN server—NordVPN is a reasonable shortlist choice. Security.org’s review, updated October 1, 2026, reports service in 137 countries and a limit of 10 simultaneous connections. It is a weaker fit if your main requirement is guaranteed access in a highly restrictive country, a particular streaming catalog, more than 10 connected devices on one account, or the lowest possible long-term cost. Those needs call for checking current conditions and terms rather than relying on a general recommendation.
Is NordVPN safe, and does it keep logs?
NordVPN’s strongest directly relevant privacy evidence is its reported audit history. The company says six independent examinations of its no-logs claim have taken place, with the first two performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers AG Switzerland and later reviews, including the sixth, by Deloitte. NordVPN dates that sixth review to 2025. Repeated external scrutiny is meaningful evidence, but an audit covers a defined scope and period; it cannot establish that a service will behave identically forever. What a VPN does—and does not—protect
A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN endpoint and changes the public IP address many destination sites see. This can reduce what an untrusted local network or your internet provider can observe about your traffic. It also shifts trust: the VPN operator handles the connection instead. A VPN does not make you anonymous or prevent websites from recognizing an account, identifying a browser fingerprint, or seeing information you choose to share. It cannot remove malware already on your device or stop phishing.
Protocols and encryption
NordVPN says NordLynx, which is based on WireGuard, is the default in most of its apps. Its support documentation recommends OpenVPN when stability is the priority and specifies AES-256-GCM with a 4096-bit DH key for its OpenVPN configuration. These are the provider’s descriptions and guidance, not an independent comparison of speed or security. A protocol or encryption label alone is not a complete assessment of a VPN’s security. Will NordVPN work for streaming or in a restricted country?
Streaming access can be a benefit, but it is not guaranteed. A platform may change how it detects VPN connections, and access can vary by title, account, country, server, and date. If a particular library is the reason you are considering NordVPN, check current service terms and assess compatibility during any applicable refund period rather than treating past or general reports of unblocking as a durable promise.
NordVPN may also fail to connect in countries with strict firewalls, according to Security.org’s review. Its reported coverage across 137 countries does not mean it can bypass every government restriction. How much does NordVPN cost, and is it worth the price?
Prices change by region, plan, tax, and offer. As a dated US snapshot, Tom’s Guide listed NordVPN Basic at an equivalent of $3.49 per month on a two-year offer, with three months free and $94.23 billed for the two-year term. Compare plans by what you will actually use, not by the apparent monthly equivalent alone. The cited US pricing page discusses Basic, Complete, and Prime and notes that availability differs by region. Check whether a plan’s extra security or identity-related features are available where you live and whether they justify the difference for you.

- Total cost: Compare the upfront charge and renewal amount, not just the advertised per-month equivalent.
- Included features: Confirm which malware, phishing, tracker-blocking, password-manager, cloud-storage, or identity tools are included in your region and tier.
- Device ceiling: Security.org reports a maximum of 10 simultaneous connections; decide whether that is enough for your household.
- Usefulness: A larger bundle is not better value if you will not use its additional features.
Who is NordVPN a good fit for?
- People looking for an established general-purpose VPN for routine browsing and untrusted Wi-Fi.
- Households whose needs fit the reported limit of 10 simultaneous connections and the countries where the service is available.
- Buyers who have checked that the bundled features they want are included in their region and plan.
- Travelers who want an additional layer of connection privacy, as long as their destination does not block the service.
Who should compare alternatives?
- Anyone who needs dependable service through a highly restrictive firewall; NordVPN does not guarantee bypassing such restrictions.
- Anyone buying primarily for access to a specific streaming library, because availability can change.
- Price-sensitive buyers who do not want a large upfront payment or do not need higher-tier extras.
- Users who need more than 10 simultaneous connections on one account, based on the limit reported by Security.org.
