On October 2, 2026, WordPress Core contributor Aaron Jorbin announced updates to the Trac lists for Core Component Maintainers and Core Bug Gardeners, plus three GitHub teams with triage-level access to the WordPress/wordpress-develop repository. The changes were intended to clarify who looks after parts of the project and help contributors work; the announcement also explains how to flag a mistaken removal and how long invitees had to accept a GitHub invitation.
Why were the Trac maintainer and bug gardener lists changed?
Jorbin’s announcement says the lists were updated after a review of contributor activity and account connections. It gives three reasons someone may have been removed:
- They had moved on from contributing.
- They had not contributed regularly to a component.
- They had not connected their GitHub and WordPress.org accounts.
The announcement does not specify a minimum contribution count or define a time window for “regularly.” It presents these as the reasons for the cleanup, not as a published scoring rule. Anyone interested in volunteering as a Component Maintainer or Bug Gardener is welcome to do so; the post asks volunteers to make sure their GitHub and WordPress.org accounts are connected.
How do I ask for a mistaken removal to be corrected?
If you believe you were removed by mistake, the announcement says to message @desrosj or @jorbin in Slack, or leave a comment on the October 2 Make WordPress Core post. It also notes that contributors may have been missed and invites them to comment.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which GitHub teams were added, and who were they for?
The announcement describes three teams receiving triage-level access to WordPress/wordpress-develop:
- Gutenberg contributors with multiple merged pull requests: this group was for contributors meeting that description.
- WordPress Core Component Maintainers: the new team was based on the Make Core Components page.
- WordPress Core Bug Gardeners: the new team was populated from existing Trac gardeners.
Members of the former WordPress Core PR Triage team were invited to the Bug Gardeners group. Jorbin’s post says the groups’ purpose and permissions aligned with that responsibility; it does not describe broader administrative access.

What does triage-level access let a team member do?
As described in the announcement, triage access lets team members request code reviews, assign labels, and help triage pull requests. The post frames the access as a way to help contributors work on pull requests; it does not say that it grants permission to merge code or administer the repository.
How long did invitees have to accept?
GitHub team invitations had to be accepted within seven days, according to the October 2 announcement. The post does not give a specific expiration time. If you expected an invitation but did not receive one, it says some contributors may have been missed and invites them to comment on the post.

How do the project roles differ?
The announcement connects three related but distinct kinds of work. Trac tickets are the project-management records used for tasks, feature requests, bug reports, and support requests, according to Trac’s ticket documentation. GitHub issues and Projects offer separate ways to track and organize work; GitHub describes issues as a way to track different work types and Projects as customizable views with fields. Those general platform capabilities do not add WordPress-specific permissions or policy beyond what Jorbin’s announcement states.
- Component maintenance focuses on looking after a particular area of WordPress Core.
- Trac bug gardening concerns tending and organizing tickets.
- GitHub pull-request triage helps route and label proposed code changes and request reviews.
In a comment on the October 2 post, Manuel Camargo said gardening the Mail component reduced its tickets from “over a hundred to barely a dozen.” He also reported doing more than 20 bug scrubs on Posts and reducing its tickets from “almost 600” to “barely 250,” with zero pending-response tickets. These are Camargo’s personal reported counts in that comment, not independently verified or presented as project-wide statistics.
