Progress Software announced three additions to Progress Agentic RAG on October 1, 2026: a Microsoft Teams application, a Smart Agent for multistep retrieval, and a WordPress plugin for content ingestion. Together, they extend how the platform delivers answers, finds information across sources, and brings website content into its knowledge layer. Progress says existing customers can use the features with their current indexed content and access controls, without reindexing or rebuilding pipelines.

What Progress announced

The October 1 announcement describes the additions as extending three parts of an enterprise retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflow: delivery through Teams, retrieval through Smart Agent, and ingestion through WordPress. These are additions to Progress Agentic RAG, not a separate product launch.

  • Microsoft Teams application: brings the platform’s AI experience into Teams chats and channels.
  • Smart Agent: plans and carries out multistep retrieval across selected knowledge and live sources.
  • WordPress plugin: gives administrators a way to control how WordPress content is indexed and refreshed.

Progress says the new capabilities are available to existing customers using their current indexed content and access controls, with no reindexing, pipeline rebuilds, or architecture changes required. That is the vendor’s description of migration requirements; the announcement does not provide independently tested implementation results.

How Smart Agent retrieval is meant to work

Progress describes Smart Agent as a system that plans a query rather than simply sending it through one fixed retrieval step. It can break a question into sub-questions, choose sources, gather results, and continue evaluating them until it considers the information sufficient.

Utilizing the enterprise-grade ZFS file system and ECC memory, it prevents data corruption and bit rot—a must-have for professional photographers and video editors safeguarding 4K/8K RAW footage.
  • [OpenClaw-Driven Automation Workflow] The built-in OpenClaw execution layer allows complex automated tasks to be processed locally. Even when offline, your backup schedules and AI file organization continue seamlessly. Say goodbye to monthly cloud subscriptions and high latency.
  • [Dual 10GbE & USB4 Ultra-Connectivity] Experience server-class speeds with dual 10GbE ports and a 40Gbps USB4 interface. It enables multi-user real-time collaboration on large project files directly from the NAS, ensuring zero-lag editing for creative studios and production teams.
  • [Open-Source ZimaOS for Total Privacy] Running on the fully open-source ZimaOS, NEXUS ensures your data stays physically on-premise with no backdoors. It acts as a "Digital Fortress" for privacy-conscious families and small businesses who demand absolute data sovereignty.
  1. Plan: analyze the question and form sub-questions.
  2. Select sources: retrieve from a Knowledge Box, MCP-connected applications, and web sources, as appropriate.
  3. Refine: assess the results and continue retrieval when the agent considers more information necessary.

Progress says this approach can reduce the custom orchestration and source-routing work teams otherwise have to build. The announcement supplies no independent measurement of time saved, answer accuracy, latency, or cost, so those should be treated as product claims rather than established performance outcomes.

How this differs from conventional RAG

Progress’s product FAQ characterizes traditional RAG as a fixed pipeline that retrieves information and then generates an answer. It describes Agentic RAG as dynamic: the system analyzes the question, breaks it into sub-questions, selects sources, and adjusts retrieval during the process. This is Progress’s explanation of its approach, not a universal definition or an independent comparison of RAG products.

One practical distinction in Progress’s description is that retrieval can draw on both pre-ingested knowledge and information accessed at query time. The two modes serve different purposes:

  • Governed, synchronized knowledge: content is ingested in advance into a Knowledge Box.
  • Live retrieval: native Model Context Protocol (MCP) support can connect to business systems and web sources when a question is asked.

Combining these modes may let a system use curated organizational material alongside information from connected services. The announcement does not provide a source-by-source comparison, independent quality results, or details of how every connector behaves.

What the Teams and WordPress additions do

Microsoft Teams application

Progress says its Teams app provides source-cited AI experiences in chats and channels while retaining customers’ existing permissions and governance controls. The announcement does not specify the complete setup process, supported Teams configurations, or independent security-test results.

WordPress plugin

The plugin is intended to give administrators control over indexing and refresh behavior for WordPress material. Progress says it preserves site structure, metadata, and taxonomy information in the knowledge layer to support retrieval quality and governance. Those benefits are vendor claims; no independent retrieval-quality evaluation is included in the announcement.

Governance and who may find it relevant

Progress positions Agentic RAG for enterprise knowledge management and AI-powered search, including assistants, engineering and technical documentation, customer support, and self-service. The company describes the platform as offering permission-aware retrieval, role-based access control, and end-to-end audit logging.

Those controls matter when answers draw from material with different access rules. However, the reviewed announcement and product information do not independently validate permission enforcement, audit coverage, answer quality, or whether citations are sufficient for a particular organization’s compliance needs. Buyers should assess those requirements against their own systems and policies.
