Which Notepad version has table support?
Microsoft announced tables in Notepad version 11.2510.6.0 on November 21, 2025. The feature was released to Windows 11 users in the Canary and Dev Insider Channels. Microsoft described the addition as part of expanded lightweight formatting intended to help users structure notes.
The announcement does not establish that table support is available to all Windows 11 users on the stable channel. If you do not see the Table option, check your Notepad version and Windows Insider channel; the feature may not have reached your installation.
How to make a table in Windows Notepad
Insert a table from the toolbar
- Open Notepad and look for the formatting toolbar.
- Select Table and insert a table.
- Enter your content in the cells.
Insert a table with Markdown syntax
You can also type a Markdown table directly. For example:

How to add or remove table rows and columns
After inserting a table, use either the right-click context menu or the Table menu in the toolbar to add or remove rows and columns. The Microsoft announcement confirms these editing options but does not specify keyboard shortcuts.

How table support fits Notepad’s Markdown features
Tables extend Notepad’s lightweight Markdown formatting rollout. Earlier 2025 Insider releases introduced Markdown-style input and files, bold and italic styling, hyperlinks, simple lists, and headings. They also added options to switch between formatted Markdown and its syntax, clear formatting, or disable formatting in settings.
In January 2026, Microsoft announced version 11.2512.10.0 for Canary and Dev Insiders, adding further Markdown syntax support, including strikethrough and nested lists. The same update mentioned streaming results for Write, Rewrite, and Summarize, which require a Microsoft account. That account requirement concerns those AI features, not inserting or editing tables.

What to do if you cannot find the Table option
- Check your Notepad version: Microsoft announced table support in version 11.2510.6.0.
- Check your release channel: the cited announcement covers Windows 11 Canary and Dev Insiders.
- Distinguish the stable release: the announcement does not confirm general stable-channel availability. Check current Microsoft release notes or the features in your installed app rather than assuming every Windows 11 installation includes tables.
