Vector and Lauterbach announced the integration in September 2025, positioning it as a way to reduce code instrumentation and the number of build and test cycles—not as a guarantee of certification or a quantified performance improvement.
What the Vector–Lauterbach solution combines
The integration brings together Vector’s VectorCAST testing platform and Lauterbach’s TRACE32 real-time trace tools. The vendors describe it as a workflow for gathering coverage evidence from an embedded target and using VectorCAST to complete, analyze, merge, and document the results.
Vector published its announcement on September 22, 2025; Lauterbach published its announcement on September 23, 2025. The companies named automotive, aerospace, medical devices, railway, and other regulated sectors as intended application areas.
How the coverage workflow works
- Capture coverage on the target. TRACE32 acquires trace-based coverage data from the embedded system. The vendors say this avoids changing real-time behavior and reduces the need to instrument the code.
- Transfer the trace results. Engineers export the coverage data from TRACE32 and import it into VectorCAST.
- Address gaps with tests and analysis. VectorCAST supplements coverage that is missing from the trace data using targeted tests and analysis.
- Merge and document the evidence. The workflow brings the results together into coverage records intended to support verification and certification documentation.
This is a combined measurement-and-testing process: target trace supplies one part of the coverage picture, while VectorCAST is used to investigate or cover what remains. The announcement does not specify every metric, export format, or configuration required for an individual project.

Why reduce instrumentation and test cycles?
In embedded verification, adding instrumentation can affect the program being measured and may require additional builds and test runs. The vendors present target trace as a way to reduce that instrumentation burden while preserving real-time behavior, and describe minimizing build and test cycles as a route to faster verification.
Those are design goals, not published benchmark results. Vector and Lauterbach have not provided an independently published percentage for time saved, cost reduced, or coverage improved. Actual effort will depend on the target, software, coverage objectives, and project workflow.

What this means for ISO 26262 and DO-178C
The companies say the workflow supports coverage metrics relevant to safety certification, including ISO 26262 and DO-178C. Coverage evidence can help teams demonstrate test-case completeness and examine whether unintended functionality remains, but using this integration does not by itself establish that a system or project complies with either standard.
Certification suitability depends on the applicable standard and project objectives, the coverage criteria required, how tests and results are reviewed, and how the evidence is controlled and documented. Teams should confirm that the trace data and VectorCAST outputs meet their project’s specific verification and assurance needs.

What teams should verify before adopting it
The public announcement does not provide pricing or licensing terms, a complete processor and target compatibility matrix, or quantified time savings. It also does not spell out operating-system support or all implementation details. Before planning a project around the integration, teams should confirm the following with Vector and Lauterbach:
- Whether the required processor, target hardware, TRACE32 setup, and operating system are supported.
- Which coverage criteria and metrics the workflow can collect and report for the project.
- How TRACE32 data is exported and imported, and what configuration is needed to merge trace results with VectorCAST tests.
- What licensing, tool versions, and project-specific setup are required.
- How the resulting records fit the project’s verification plan and certification evidence process.
The vendors also listed a joint “Code Coverage Reimagined” webinar for October 9, 2025. That event date has passed; the announcement does not establish whether a recording is available.
