Renesas 365 connects cloud-based device exploration and project information with local development workflows; it does not replace the development environments used to build and debug software. Its initial availability, announced by Renesas on April 28, 2026, centered on more than 550 RA-family devices and integration with e² studio, RA Flexible Software Package (FSP), software development kits, and Renesas tools. The practical scope depends on the editor, project type, and device family.
What is Renesas 365?
Renesas describes Renesas 365 as a cloud-based design environment for exploring devices, developing systems with models, and validating concepts early. In practical terms, the documented workflows connect cloud workspaces and project information to development work in Renesas tools. The launch announcement specifies that the first availability phase included More than 550 RA-family devices — Renesas Electronics, 2026. See Renesas’s April 28, 2026 launch announcement.
The platform’s broader vision includes model-based collaboration, digital twins, an AI workbench and acceleration, rapid prototyping, lifecycle functions, and digital part models. Those are capabilities Renesas describes as part of its platform vision; the launch announcement’s concrete initial scope is narrower. The cited materials do not establish that every vision-page capability is currently available in every workflow. Renesas outlines that direction on its Renesas 365 vision page.
How does Renesas 365 work with e² studio?
Renesas e² studio remains the development environment for code development, building, and debugging. Renesas’s FSP documentation describes it as “a development tool encompassing code development, build, and debug.” Renesas 365 adds cloud-connected project actions rather than turning e² studio into a browser-based IDE.

The e² studio 2025-12 release notes, dated December 12, 2025, document an initial connection to Renesas 365 for RA use. The listed functions include discovering cloud solutions, viewing software and hardware configurations, choosing a cloud workspace, importing a project generated through Renesas 365, and registering a local project back to the platform. These details apply to the documented 2025-12 release; they should not be taken as a guarantee that every e² studio version has identical behavior. Can I use Renesas 365 with VS Code?
Yes. Renesas’s VS Code Extensions documentation describes a Renesas 365 integration for account sign-in, workspace switching, browsing cloud solutions and projects, and working with project configurations. The integration connects VS Code workflows to the platform; it does not mean that all cloud functions or project types are supported in the same way as e² studio.

For supported RA Smart Configurator workflows, the guide describes registering or converting a project as a Renesas 365 software project. Project configuration synchronization relates to the user’s SDM files. That is a specific project/configuration workflow, not evidence that arbitrary VS Code folders synchronize as complete cloud projects. The documented actions and qualifications are in the Renesas 365 guide for Renesas VS Code Extensions 2026-08, dated September 17, 2026.
Does Renesas 365 support all Renesas MCUs?
No equal-coverage claim is supported by the available documentation. The launch announcement describes the initial Renesas 365 phase around more than 550 RA-family devices. Separately, Renesas’s VS Code Extensions guide lists development support for DA, RA, R-Car, RH850, RISC-V MCU, RL78, RX, and RZ families. General extension support for a family does not establish that it has the same Renesas 365 project registration, migration, or synchronization workflow as RA/FSP projects.

Before choosing a workflow, check the documentation for the specific family, editor, and project type you intend to use. The Renesas VS Code Extensions User Guide describes the extensions’ broader development-family support; the Renesas 365 integration guide documents its platform-specific actions.
What do you need to get started?
Renesas’s VS Code guide says getting started involves a MyRenesas account. The reviewed documentation does not establish consumer pricing or specific regional access terms, so check Renesas’s current account and service information for availability where you are. Your development work may also continue in the relevant local editor or IDE; Renesas 365’s cloud connection does not remove the build and debug role of e² studio.

What the “one tool” promise means in practice
Think of Renesas 365 as a connected platform for parts of the embedded development workflow, not a universal replacement for IDEs or a single workflow covering every Renesas device. Its value proposition is linking cloud workspaces and project information with supported local toolchains. The concrete documented integrations and project types matter more than the platform’s broad vision language. The cited materials do not provide an independent productivity benchmark or a head-to-head comparison with another platform.
