NVIDIA reported record Data Center revenue of $10.32 billion for fiscal Q2 2024, up 171% year over year and 141% sequentially. The quarter ended July 30, 2023; the 171% figure is a historical comparison for that quarter, not a description of NVIDIA’s current growth rate.
What was NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2024 Data Center revenue?
Data Center generated $10.32 billion in the quarter ended July 30, 2023. NVIDIA said that was up 171% from the same quarter a year earlier and 141% from the preceding quarter. The company reported total revenue of $13.51 billion, up 101% year over year. These are reported fiscal Q2 2024 results, not forecasts. NVIDIA’s August 23, 2023 earnings release and its CFO commentary provide the period’s figures.
| Fiscal Q2 2024 measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Data Center revenue | $10.32 billion |
| Data Center year-over-year change | Up 171% |
| Data Center sequential change | Up 141% |
| Total company revenue | $13.51 billion |
| Total company year-over-year change | Up 101% |
What caused NVIDIA’s 171% data-center sales jump?
NVIDIA attributed the increase to demand for accelerated computing and generative AI, particularly from cloud service providers and large consumer-internet companies. Its CFO commentary said Data Center growth was led by cloud service providers; the earnings release also named major cloud and internet customers as demand sources. The company’s statements identify customer categories and demand drivers, rather than a breakdown of the $10.32 billion by customer or application.
Which NVIDIA GPU products were tied to the quarter?
GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip
NVIDIA said the GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip was shipping for complex AI and high-performance-computing workloads. The release connected it to the period’s infrastructure roadmap; it did not state that GH200 shipments accounted for a specified share of quarterly revenue.
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
L40S GPU
NVIDIA announced that its L40S GPU was available, describing it as “a universal data center processor designed to accelerate the most compute-intensive applications.” The release did not quantify L40S sales or identify it as the sole or principal cause of the revenue increase.
How does the 2023 result compare with NVIDIA’s later Q2?
Fiscal-quarter labels recur each year, so Q2 figures need the fiscal year attached. In fiscal Q2 2027, NVIDIA reported $96.2 billion in total revenue, up 106% year over year, and $89.0 billion in Data Center revenue, up 117% year over year, in its August 26, 2026 release. That later quarter was substantially larger in revenue, while its reported Data Center growth rate differed from the 171% reported for Q2 FY2024. The figures describe different periods and should not be combined as if they were one trend measurement. NVIDIA’s fiscal Q2 2027 release provides the later results.
