AT&T has not committed to supporting Apple’s iPhone Handoff in its reported response: a spokesperson acknowledged the feature’s potential but pointed to the carrier’s existing eSIM activation and transfer options. That is not a permanent rejection, but it leaves AT&T customers without a stated launch date. In the United States, Apple currently lists T-Mobile as a participating carrier; Apple also lists Telekom in Germany. [Apple’s Handoff setup guide; MacRumors’ September 23, 2026 report]

What iPhone Handoff does

Handoff lets a customer use one phone number on two iPhones, with the number active on only one iPhone at a time. Unlocking the iPhone the user wants to use switches the number to that device. Calls, voicemail, messages—including iMessage, RCS, SMS, and MMS—and Find My location move to the iPhone in use, according to Apple.

That is different from having the number active on both phones simultaneously. Handoff is designed to move the active endpoint between two devices, not provide concurrent service on both.

What AT&T has said—and what it has not

In a September 23, 2026 report, MacRumors quoted an unnamed AT&T spokesperson saying: “While we see that there could be potential in capabilities like iPhone Handoff, our focus remains on delivering innovations that make life simpler and keep customers connected with confidence.” The spokesperson also pointed to AT&T’s “existing eSIM activation and transfer options across compatible devices.” [MacRumors report]

  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.

  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

The statement does not announce Handoff support, an eligibility policy, a fee, or a rollout date. It also does not say AT&T will never offer the feature. Customers should treat support as unconfirmed unless AT&T or Apple updates its eligibility information.

Which carriers currently support Handoff?

Apple’s setup guide, published September 9, 2026, currently lists T-Mobile in the United States and Telekom in Germany. Carrier participation is required: owning two compatible iPhones alone does not enable Handoff. Because availability can change, check Apple’s country-specific list and your carrier before making a decision. [Apple’s Handoff setup guide]

  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Carrier or market What is established Price information
T-Mobile, United States Listed by Apple; T-Mobile announced Handoff availability for eligible customers. $5 per month, as stated in T-Mobile’s September 10, 2026 announcement. [T-Mobile announcement]
Telekom, Germany Listed by Apple. Not stated in Apple’s setup guide. [Apple’s Handoff setup guide]
AT&T, United States No Handoff commitment or launch date in the reported statement. Not stated.

Appleosophy reported on October 1, 2026 that Verizon and EE were expected to add support later in 2026. That is a reported expectation, not confirmation that either carrier is currently eligible. Check Apple’s list or the carrier’s own announcement before relying on it. [Appleosophy report]

T-Mobile’s U.S. price and device wording

T-Mobile says its U.S. Handoff service costs $5 per month. That figure is T-Mobile’s stated recurring fee; it should not be assumed to apply to Telekom or any other carrier. T-Mobile also said the service is available on iPhones with iOS 27 and described it as ready from day one on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and iPhone Duo. Apple’s separate requirements still apply, including a compatible eSIM plan and the setup conditions below. [T-Mobile announcement; Apple’s Handoff setup guide]

Requirements and setup

Apple’s published requirements are:

  • Two iPhones running iOS 27 or later.
  • Both iPhones connected to Wi-Fi and signed in to the same Apple Account.
  • Messages in iCloud enabled, with iMessage and FaceTime signed in to that same account.
  • An eSIM cellular plan from a carrier that supports Handoff. Carrier fees may apply.

You can enroll while setting up a new iPhone or later through Settings. Apple gives this path:

  1. On the iPhone, open Settings > Cellular > Set Up Cellular or Add eSIM.
  2. Select Use Number on This iPhone and Another, then follow the on-screen steps.

If you replace an iPhone, you may need to transfer the eSIM and set up Handoff again; the exact process depends on the carrier’s eSIM-transfer support. [Apple’s Handoff setup guide]

Important limits before switching

  • Handoff does not automatically move an Apple Watch pairing to the other iPhone.
  • Some carrier services, including Call Forwarding and Caller ID, and carrier-account management remain tied to the main iPhone.
  • Some third-party apps may sign you out on one device or require approval from the other iPhone.
  • To turn Handoff off, Apple says to contact your carrier. Deleting an eSIM alone may not stop service charges.

These boundaries matter if you expect both phones to behave identically. Handoff moves the number and selected services to the iPhone in use, but it does not duplicate every carrier feature, account control, app session, or device pairing. [Apple’s Handoff setup guide]

What AT&T customers can do now

If you need one number to move between two iPhones, first confirm that your carrier appears on Apple’s current Handoff eligibility list and ask the carrier about plan requirements and fees. AT&T’s cited response does not establish that its existing eSIM transfer options are equivalent to Handoff: eSIM transfer moves a plan between devices, while Handoff is intended to let one number switch between two enrolled iPhones.

Buying another iPhone does not resolve the carrier gap. For customers considering a second device, T-Mobile specifically identified the iPhone 18 Pro lineup as ready for Handoff, but the service still requires participating-carrier support and Apple’s setup requirements.
