They also say the team will seek new opportunities, while they plan to take a break before returning to game development. The announcement does not give a reason for the decision or say what will happen to Nerial’s existing games.
Is Nerial shutting down?
In a joint statement reproduced by Gematsu, founders Tamara and François Alliot said they had decided with publisher Devolver Digital “to end development at the studio.” They described the change as “the end of Nerial as we know it” and opened their statement by saying the studio was entering “hibernation mode.” That is the founders’ description, not a stated legal status for the company.
The founders said Nerial had made 11 published games over 13 years. Those figures come from their statement; they are not presented as independently audited company statistics.
What happens to the Nerial team?
The founders said the team would seek new opportunities and that they recommended its members to prospective studios. A Kicks & Grips report said seven colleagues were being let go. That report named:

Why is Nerial closing?
The founders said the decision was made with Devolver Digital, but did not specify a financial or creative cause. The available statement does not establish why development at the studio is ending, so it would be speculation to assign a motive.

What are the founders doing next?
Tamara and François Alliot said they intend to return to game development after taking time to reflect. They wrote, “We’re going back to our roots,” and said they would come back “with a new perspective.” They did not announce a next project or timetable. Their plans describe the founders’ own future; they do not say that Nerial will resume development.
