Akari Fujinami’s winning streak ended on October 3, 2026, when Il Sim Son of the DPR Korea pinned her at 3:52 in the women’s 57 kg semifinal at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. United World Wrestling (UWW) counted 155 consecutive wins before the defeat.
Who ended Akari Fujinami’s winning streak?
Son ended the run in the 57 kg semifinal, not in Fujinami’s opening bout. UWW reported that Son took a 6–0 lead by the break with takedowns and turns, then added two barrel rolls before pinning Fujinami at 3:52. Fujinami had rallied from an early deficit in her opening bout, but Son kept her from setting up an attack. The reported finish was a pin.

How many consecutive matches had Fujinami won?
UWW counted 155 consecutive wins before the Asian Games semifinal. A figure of 153 refers to an earlier milestone, not a competing count for the final streak total.

When was Fujinami’s last loss before the Asian Games?
Her preceding defeat came in June 2017, when Umi Ito beat her 7–2 in the 44 kg girls’ final at Japan’s National Junior High School Championships. UWW’s retrospective says Fujinami later described that loss as a turning point that made her take improvement more seriously. The streak officially began three months later, at the junior-high division of the Japan Women’s Open.

UWW attributed those words to Fujinami in its September 18, 2026 retrospective on the 2017 loss.

The 2017 defeat was at 44 kg; the Asian Games semifinal was at 57 kg. Fujinami won Olympic gold for Japan at 53 kg at Paris 2024, as recorded by the Japan Olympic Committee athlete profile. She moved up from 53 kg to 57 kg after the Paris Olympics, so the streak’s endpoint came in a different weight category from her Olympic title.
