Guzzle is a PHP HTTP client for sending requests to APIs and other web services. Install it with Composer, then use its client to make synchronous or asynchronous requests; PSR-7 messages, PSR-18 interoperability, and middleware provide ways to work with other PHP components and extend request behavior.
What Guzzle does
Guzzle is an extensible PHP library for making HTTP requests. It handles common work such as query strings, form or JSON data, cookies, and streaming uploads and downloads, so PHP applications can communicate with web services without building each request from low-level transport details. The project describes it as a PHP HTTP client that makes it easy to send HTTP requests and integrate with web services: Guzzle project README.
Guzzle abstracts the transport layer. Application code can use the client API without being tied directly to cURL, PHP streams, sockets, or a particular event loop. The available transport and behavior depend on the handler and configuration used by the application.
Install Guzzle with Composer
From the root of your PHP project, run:
composer require guzzlehttp/guzzle
Composer adds Guzzle as a project dependency and resolves a release compatible with the project’s PHP and dependency constraints. Check the version support guidance before choosing or upgrading a release.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Send a basic request
Create a client, request a URL, and inspect the returned response:
<?php
$client = new GuzzleHttpClient();
$response = $client->request('GET', 'https://api.example.com/users/123');
echo $response->getStatusCode();
echo $response->getHeaderLine('content-type');
echo $response->getBody();
The response exposes the HTTP status, headers, and body. In an application, handle error statuses and exceptions according to the API and the behavior configured for the request; do not assume every response is a successful result.

Choose a Guzzle version that fits your PHP runtime
The project’s repository lists these release lines and PHP constraints. Release status can change, so consult the official version guidance when selecting a version or planning an upgrade.
| Guzzle release line | Repository status | PHP constraint listed |
|---|---|---|
| 8.2 | Latest | PHP >=7.4,<8.7 |
| 7.15 | Maintenance | PHP >=7.2.5,<8.7 |
| 6.5 | End of Life | PHP >=5.5,<8.0 |
Use the newest release line compatible with the application’s PHP version and dependencies where practical. Guzzle 6.5 is marked end of life in the cited guidance, so it should not be treated as a maintained choice.

How PSR-7 and PSR-18 fit in
PSR-7 messages and streams
Guzzle works with PSR-7 interfaces for HTTP requests, responses, and streams. That standardization helps it exchange messages with libraries that also use PSR-7. The companion guzzlehttp/psr7 package provides concrete request, response, URI, uploaded-file, and stream objects. Its repository notes that PSR-7 messages and URIs are immutable, while streams are mutable handles.
PSR-18 client interoperability
PSR-18 defines a common interface for sending HTTP requests. Guzzle supports PSR-18, which can make it easier to use the client where a library accepts an implementation of that standard rather than a Guzzle-specific client API. PSR-7 describes message objects; PSR-18 describes the client interface that sends them.

Handlers and middleware extend request behavior
A handler performs the underlying request work. In Guzzle’s documented model, a handler receives a PSR-7 request and request options, then returns a promise that resolves to a response or rejects with an exception. Middleware wraps or composes behavior around a handler; GuzzleHttpHandlerStack::create() builds a stack with default middleware around a handler. See the Guzzle handlers and middleware documentation.
This separation is useful for cross-cutting features such as logging, authentication decoration, retries, caching, and instrumentation. Which request options work can depend on the middleware present in the stack, so a custom handler setup may not behave exactly like the default stack. Verify the relevant handler and middleware documentation when changing transports or composing a custom stack.

Synchronous and asynchronous requests
Guzzle supports both synchronous and asynchronous requests through its client interface. A synchronous call lets the application continue after the response is available; asynchronous requests use promises so work can be initiated without immediately waiting for each response. This is useful when an application can make progress while requests are pending, but the appropriate pattern depends on how the surrounding PHP application manages promises and concurrency.
Guzzle’s transport abstraction means choosing an asynchronous pattern does not require application code to be written directly against a particular event loop. The selected handler still determines the underlying execution behavior.
