Threads is reportedly testing a way to place a quoted post over a photo or video from within the image-post editor. The feature is described as available to some users, not as a general rollout. If you have access, look for a Quote choice while editing an image post.
What the visual quote-post test does
Social Media Today reported on October 1, 2026, that some Threads users can select a post and layer it over an attached photo or video while preparing an image post. The reported Quote option appears in the editor’s menu. Posts available to choose reportedly include posts you have liked, saved posts, and your own updates. Social Media Today’s report is the source for these test mechanics.
The same report mentions other image-editor options, including stickers, layouts, and splitting one photo into as many as nine parts. Those are separate reported editing options; they are not described as prerequisites for adding a quote.
How to check whether you can quote a post over an image
The report does not give a fixed menu path or confirm that every account has the option. For a practical check, start an image post and inspect the editor’s options:

- Open the Threads post composer and add a photo or video.
- Open the editing menu and look for Quote.
- If the option appears, select an available post—reportedly one you liked, saved, or wrote—and check how it is placed over the media before publishing.
If you do not see Quote, the reported test may not be available to your account. The report does not establish country availability, eligibility rules, supported app versions, or a public rollout date, so the absence of the option does not point to a specific fix.
How this differs from an ordinary Threads quote post

The reporting does not show that either format performs better, or establish one as objectively preferable. Choose based on whether the media or the quoted post should carry the most visual weight.

What Meta has confirmed
Meta’s April 2025 update for Threads on the web says users can copy a Threads post as an image to share on Instagram and other apps. That confirms a related post-as-image workflow, but it does not announce or verify the newer editor overlay test. Meta’s Threads web update describes the image-copying capability.
Meta’s March 2025 announcement provides official context for quote posts and refers to quote controls introduced in November 2024. It does not describe putting a quote over attached media. The overlay’s mechanics remain based on secondary reporting rather than a matching official Meta confirmation.

Does the feature require another app, and will it boost reach?
The reported workflow takes place inside Threads’ editor; the available reporting does not establish that a separate editing app or dedicated equipment is required. It also provides no evidence that visual quote posts increase views, engagement, or reach, so treat this as a presentation option rather than a proven growth tactic.
