WebGL usually does not need a separate plug-in or a universal “enable” switch. To use an interactive 3D site, your browser must be able to create the WebGL version the site requires, and your device’s graphics hardware must support it. Test WebGL first, then troubleshoot the browser or graphics driver if needed.
Check whether WebGL works

Open the Khronos WebGL test page.

Check whether the page reports WebGL 1 and WebGL 2 as available. Note which version the site you want to use requires; support for WebGL 1 does not guarantee support for WebGL 2.

If the required version is available, reload the interactive site. If the test says WebGL 2 is unavailable, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
What WebGL needs
WebGL is a JavaScript API that lets a compatible browser render interactive 2D and 3D graphics without a plug-in. Browser compatibility is only part of the requirement: the device’s GPU must also support the capabilities requested. WebGL 2 provides much of the OpenGL ES 3.0 feature set, so a browser and device may support WebGL 1 but not WebGL 2. MDN’s WebGL overview explains the API and its browser and hardware requirements.

If WebGL 2 is unavailable

Update your browser to a current version, then run the test page again.

Install available graphics-driver updates using the update method provided for your operating system or device.

Restart the browser and test again.

If the required context is still unavailable, check the current support guidance for your exact browser, operating system, and browser version. Settings and troubleshooting steps can differ across them.
A report that WebGL 2 is unavailable is a compatibility or configuration signal, not proof that you need to buy a graphics card. Avoid following old instructions to enable experimental flags: prototype WebGL 2 flag instructions from 2016 are historical, not reliable guidance for current browsers.

If WebGL works in the test but a site still fails
Check the site’s stated browser, WebGL-version, and graphics requirements. A passing test does not establish why another site fails; that site may require a different WebGL version or capability. Change settings only when current browser guidance or the site’s requirements point to a specific change.

A page can check whether the browser creates a WebGL context by calling canvas.getContext("webgl"). For WebGL 2, request canvas.getContext("webgl2"). A null result means that request did not produce a context; it does not explain why. See MDN’s WebGLRenderingContext documentation.
