AYANEO temporarily stopped new NEXT 2 sales after saying rising memory and storage costs made the handheld uneconomic to sell at its planned terms. The company later said international orders were expected to begin shipping, but it has not announced when—or whether—new sales will resume. The claim that the NEXT 2 is the first PC handheld casualty of rising RAM and SSD prices is not established by the available sources.
Was the AYANEO NEXT 2 canceled?
No permanent cancellation has been announced. In an update published around July 2026, AYANEO said international orders would begin shipping in the near future. It also described the device as temporarily unavailable for a new round of sales and said it would consider restocking when supply conditions allowed. The company did not give a firm date for renewed sales. AYANEO’s update

That distinction matters: the update addresses existing international orders separately from new purchases. It signals an interruption in sales, not confirmation that every order has shipped or that more units will be offered.
Why did AYANEO stop taking new sales?
AYANEO attributed the pause to rising memory costs. In March 2026, as reported by PC Gamer, the company said supplier storage prices had risen sharply after the Chinese New Year. AYANEO said the resulting total cost exceeded the product’s selling price and approached twice the price it had originally set.

The “nearly twice” comparison is AYANEO’s account of its own costs, relayed by PC Gamer; it is not an independently audited figure or a market-wide measure of RAM and SSD prices. AYANEO’s later statement likewise cited continued increases in global memory costs as the reason new sales were temporarily unavailable.
What happened to the price?
AYANEO’s February 2026 launch announcement positioned the NEXT 2 as a flagship Windows handheld, with a starting price of US$1,799 and planned shipments for June 2026. Those were launch-period terms, not a confirmed current offer. AYANEO’s launch announcement
As of September 29, 2026, AYANEO’s official store listed the NEXT 2 at US$2,999. That is the store’s displayed price, but a listing alone does not establish that the product is in stock, available to order, or shipping. AYANEO’s official store

There is no confirmed new-sales window in AYANEO’s later update. The company said the product was temporarily unavailable for another round of sales and made future restocks conditional on supply conditions. Although the official store page displays a price, it does not prove that buyers can currently complete a purchase or when an order would ship.
If you are considering a purchase, check the store’s live order status and delivery terms for your country rather than relying on the displayed price alone. AYANEO’s store also lists a NEXT 2 tempered film at US$15.90 and a customized storage bag at US$49.90 as of September 29, 2026; verify each listing’s availability and compatibility before buying. Is it really the first PC handheld affected by soaring RAM and SSD prices?
The available reporting supports a narrower claim: AYANEO paused new NEXT 2 sales and attributed the decision to rising memory costs. It does not establish that the NEXT 2 was the first PC handheld affected, or that other manufacturers faced the same impact. Without market-wide evidence, “first casualty” should be treated as headline framing rather than a verified industry milestone.
