Softronics’ MultiMedia Logic Simulator (MMLogic) is a visual digital-logic tool: place switches, gates, registers, displays, and other devices on a schematic, connect them, then run the circuit and toggle its inputs. It was announced as freeware on May 16, 2006. Softronics still lists MMLogic downloads, but Windows 10 or 11 compatibility is not guaranteed across all builds.

What MultiMedia Logic does

MMLogic is a circuit designer and simulator for experimenting with digital logic. Instead of entering a Boolean expression into a text-only calculator, you assemble a circuit from graphical components and watch its behavior on the schematic.

  • Inputs: switches you can click while a simulation runs.
  • Logic and state: gates, registers, counters, and related devices.
  • Outputs: displays and other components that show circuit results.

That makes it useful for learning how logic components interact, building small demonstrations, and testing ideas. Softronics lists MMLogic resources, including a companion book, Bebop to the Boolean Boogie.

How to build and run a circuit

  1. Place components: Open the device palette and add switches, gates, registers, displays, or other required parts to the schematic window.
  2. Wire the circuit: Connect the component inputs and outputs to represent the logic you want to test.
  3. Start the simulation: Choose the simulation or run command. The circuit displays its resulting actions and events.
  4. Change inputs: Click switches and observe how the output changes.

In a 2006 demonstration, EE Times/EDN author Clive Maxfield described a three-input NOT-gate puzzle. A solution created by George Mills could be opened from an unzipped circuit file using File > Open, then run with Simulate > Run; clicking switches A, B, and C showed the circuit’s response. This is an example of the learning workflow, not a performance test.

#1 Best Overall
Digital Logic Design: Learn the Logic Circuits and Logic Design (English Edition)
  • Easy explanation of digital system and binary numbers with lots of solved examples
  • Detailed covering of boolean algebra and gate-level minimization with proper examples and diagrammatic representation.
  • Detailed analysis of different combinational logic circuits
  • Complete synchronous sequential logic understanding
  • Deep understanding of memory and programmable logic

Is MMLogic still free, and where can you get it?

The freeware announcement is historical: Maxfield’s EE Times/EDN article was published May 16, 2006. For current downloads and project materials, start with Softronics’ MMLogic Downloads page, which lists a setup kit, source materials, release notes, and a continued-development project. The page result identifies a setup kit for 32-bit Windows 10/7; check the page’s current instructions before installing.

The original Softronics release lineage was Win32. SourceForge’s release record for version 1.4 lists Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP. That history does not establish that the original build works on current Windows versions.

Original MMLogic and the community continuation

A later community project describes a continuation of the original software, which its maintainers say was no longer maintained. It reports refreshed code for modern Windows and Visual Studio 2015 or later, along with changes to the available devices.

Aspect Original Softronics release Community continuation
Windows context SourceForge lists version 1.4 for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP. The project reports refreshed code for modern Windows; this is not a guarantee for every Windows 10 or 11 system.
Maintenance The continuation project describes the original code as no longer maintained. Continued-development project; consult its current page for status.
Devices and features Includes the original simulator’s device set; the cited release record does not provide a feature-by-feature inventory. Reports shared memory, multi-bit signals, and ring and twisted-ring counters; direct CPU I/O devices were removed.
Source Softronics lists source materials on its downloads page. The continuation project reports refreshed code.
Circuit-file compatibility Not stated in the cited release record. Whether legacy circuit files load unchanged is not established by the cited project information.

Choose a build based on the operating system you need and the devices your circuit uses. The available project information does not provide a controlled feature benchmark or prove that every older circuit opens unchanged in the continuation.

What to know before installing

  • Check the exact build: Softronics’ page and the historical SourceForge record describe different releases and Windows contexts.
  • Do not assume Windows 11 support: the listed setup-kit context and community claims do not amount to a universal compatibility guarantee for Windows 10 or 11.
  • Consider device changes: the community continuation says it removed direct CPU I/O devices while adding other features.
  • Use appropriate caution: the cited sources do not establish a current security audit or support service level.
